I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Avaya in June 2011
Interview
I was pleased to meet the HR team. They greeted me and treated me as a peer. It was refreshing to learn about the nuances of their hiring practices. While I was a local candidate, they were more impressed that I worked in Newark, NJ than anything else.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Avaya (Pune) in Feb 2010
Interview
HR had shortlisted my resume with the initial screening of resume and expectations.
first interview was 1:1 with the technical members of team, It was panel interview based on core java, SOAP, JVM, Design Patterns, Threading etc.
Interview was really good and the interviewer were more focused on technical aspects and concepts which they asked in details. It was around 1.5 hrs technical discussion.
After the first successful interview I was expecting an another round with PM for final discussion where my impression was all things were with them and will be mostly about Projects and what they are looking for but the Second round was completely disaster experience and It definitely cleared air for me to show the correct picture of the company.
Second round was PM round:
I reached on time but I guess the PM was busy in another meeting so to feel in for that time I was asked to give 1 hour aptitude test which I guess they use it for pass time activity when they want you to wait.
Then while I was finishing the test PM appeared for the interview and he started with normal questions like Tell me about yourself then he the next questions were really mixed of everything which were not at all clear what he wanted to ask and what he was expecting from me. Its like he is suddenly looking for rocks on ground and then talking about the all the planets in the universe.
I was not sure about his intention behind the questions and what he is looking for then he was also not sure about if he need that technical people for his project.
Then the final thing came where he asked me about my salary expectations which were there with them from the initial screening round and he looked surprised to know my salary expectations.
The PM have given completely bad impression about the company and work they do, I was in no mood to continue or even to think about getting offer from them during the second round.
The department for which I had been interviewed was I guess Serviceability.
I am pretty un happy with the HR process and PM who don't value your time. It was completely waste of time to go through the process where they should be sure about the candidate profile requirements and what they are looking for before calling you in there office.
I would not recommend working there if you are looking for good work and professional environment.
