      Christmas Casual/Sales Assistant Interview

      12 Oct 2018

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Cotton On

      Interview

So when I first walked in I expected a one to one interview but was surprised to find the floor filled with young women and few men. Was a bit confused at first about where to go but found my way with my group. The girl assisting us was lovely and asked me to write my name onto a sticker and my given number to stick onto my arm. I came to my interview 8ish minutes early however, almost all of my group were already there and many were sucking up to the girl trying to win over a position (didn't work because some didn't make it through). Finally after some awkward standing we were asked to enter a room filled with chairs huddled into three groups. They asked us to sit wherever we liked and I chose a spot around girls I didn't feel intimidated by as it was obvious we were about to do some discussion. The managers introduced themselves and tried really hard to break the ice and welcome everyone. There was a group leader for each team whom was a working manager at one of the cotton on group sites. A question would be asked like "Why did you apply for Cotton On?" and you had to discuss it within the group. It was very obvious who the shy candidates were or the more eager ones. Everyone wanted to stand out so there was a bit of overlapping and talking over eachother, felt a bit tense. After around 8mins of discussion each group would need to talk about what they discussed. This is where you could definitely feel how tense the room was because some didn't want to speak or too many wanted to. I personally didn't get the opportunity to speak in front of everyone but i do think I answered the questions within our group really well. After, they showed us a video on Cotton On Foundation and we spent some time discussing that as groups- even roleplaying how to get a customer on board to understand how important the cause was. Following this session they led us outside again for the next session. I thought they were just dividing us into teams again as we were walking out, however, I soon realised that they were actually filtering us, right then and there. The remaining candidates went onto the next activity. Session two introduced us to new managers and involved being broken into teams of 4-5, these teams were being a customer with an occasion. From this, as a team you would need to construct an outfit and present to the rest of the candidates and managers why you chose those items. I loved this task and knew that I could really stand out with it. So I took over leadership with girls and together we constructed a really cute outfit. Although I was holding the items I didn't want to be the only girl talking and taking all the credit. So I asked each girl to pick something they wanted to talk about so everyone atleast had a tun to talk. I made the introduction witty which the managers seemed to love and it set me apart from everyone else. After everyone finished presenting they called out a few names who were put to the side. These candidates were eliminated and the remaining were congratulated. The third and final round was what they called "Speed Dating". This was basically a one to one interview where you would need to choose a brand to work with (so either cotton on, body, kids, factorie, supre or rubi". I decided on Rubi and it seemed to have worked because I didn't have to wait long at all unlike everyone who wanted cotton on, and the interview went smoothly. The girl was vey enthusiastic and to be honest I think it was because very few wanted something other than cotton on. I was given the job and some free goodies as well. Was very easy and would recommend to anyone that gets the offer. Even if you don't pass you receive a 30% off voucher for any of the stores.
