      Baggage Handler/Ramp Operator Interview

      30 Mar 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Los Angeles, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Delta Air Lines (Los Angeles, CA) in Mar 2014

      Interview

Applied via web on Delta site. Filled out assessment. Received call from strange number. It was Delta. I called back. I have a 45-50 minute interview. Advised that I would receive a call to set up a follow up Face to Face interview. A few days later I received a call. Set up interview. We warned. It will be a cattle call. It seems DL wants the cream of the cream so come prepared. There will be anywhere from 10-18 candidates filing in with you. Some underdressed making the others feel overdressed. Dress accordingly. Wear a shirt and tie (suit if you have it). You want the job right? The list seemed to have been set up alphabetically but I cannot confirm. The proces took approximately 4.5 hours. Yawp. Bring a bottle of water. Maybe a granola bar too. I was finally called in. Interview was a two-parter. First part was an application review. The application you are asked to bring in with you is reviewed with you line by line. For clarification. MInd the time gaps. All of them. Don't use family or previous supervisors/bosses as references. But you knew that, right? The second part of the interview process is the part that we all fret. This is the part we prep for. Delta is using the STAR interview technique. Situation, Task, Action, Result. Wikipedia it. It will help you understand what they are looking for and the types of questions.

      Question 1

Some of the other reviewers have been spot on with their questions. Here is what I remember: Tell me a time where you had to make a split-second decision.

      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Delta Air Lines (New Orleans, LA) in May 2015

      Interview

Just as almost perfectly described above. The actual application process is straight forward and simple. Click. Click. Upload your resume and... BAM! Done. End of story. Okay, well not really.I received an email from Delta a few days after completing the application asking me to complete a video interview. Get excited!!! No, not quite. Download the HireVue app on your device, and get ready for four (4) questions about your greatest triumphs and failures, utilizing the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Make sure to take the practice interview ensure yourself the optimal lighting, quietest background, and best sound quality for your video. Fast forward!! About a month later to the day, I received word from Delta that they'd like to have an in-person interview, which is in a few hours. Say a prayer for me, God bless :) A few (more) words: !. Delta's hiring process can be quite lengthy so if you're waiting to put in your two weeks at your present job, you may want to wait before pulling the trigger. 2. Practice makes for a smooth interview. A lot of your nerves can be calmed with repetitions on the practice interview on the HireVue app. 3. Do a simple google search for reviews and forum posts of the position you're applying for. You will learn a lot of information that's not detailed on the Delta careers page. e.g. the airlliners.net aviation forum and the reviews on this website, of course. Flights benefits, Healthcare, Financial matters, the bulk of this pertinent information can be found through your search.
