I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Garmin (Olathe, KS) in Nov 2008
Interview
I was contacted by recruiters through LinkedIn, as they were coming to my area for a career fair. i met with a line manager and the HR recruiter. Questions were either non-technical or very light about my experience on the resume. i then was flown to Olathe for an onsite interview. about an hour with HR for situational/personality questions. Then i had a 2 hour interview with "team leads". i brought a code sample, as requested, and I reviewed it with them. I asked lots of questions and got a good insight into the workings of the company. I then got lunch at the nice cafeteria and then a tour of the facility by another Software Manager. I got an email a day later saying i was grand and an offer a few days later via email.
I was applying to one of their Senior Software Engineer openings in the Boulder location. I had gone through a round of interviews. The questions were not bad, and the interviewers were pleasant. My main concern is that the HR/Recruitment is only opening this position for candidate lead farming! I had asked multiple times for an understanding on the my current status to be given radio silence.
1 month later, the job opening is reposted on linkedIn. With over hundreds of qualified candidates, you're telling me you can't find one qualified candidate. Don't waste multiple hours!!
I applied online. I interviewed at Garmin in July 2024
Interview
I had an hour-long interview with a recruiter who came across as unprofessional and rude. The recruiter asked me to rate my skills on various topics, which took about 20-30 minutes. When she inquired about my expected salary, I asked for the salary range, which seemed to annoy her. Her demeanor changed, and she immediately lost interest.

Interview
I initially interviewed with the Technical Recruiter, but I was declined before being able to interview with the actual hiring manager or interview with the technical team members. I thought the interview with the recruiter went really well so I was actually shocked when I wasn't able to proceed with the interview process. My guess is that it had to do with my race, based on some of the questions I was asked.
