I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Google (New York, NY) in Feb 2020
Interview
Glassdoor has helped me immensely while preparing for my interview, so I'd like to pay it forward!
1. I had an internal referral that really helped my app get noticed. A recruiter reached out to schedule a phone interview with me about a day after I submitted my app. The phone interview itself was very nice and conversational due to my recruiter being so friendly! She asked me a behavioral and hypothetical question instead of the usual "why Google/this position question", which I appreciated. She said she would fwd my app to the hiring team and give me an update.
2. Two days after that, I was informed that I was going to be moving on to the next step - which involved three 30 minute interviews with different members of the team I would be potentially working with. I was given 9 days in between, and one thing that really helped me was that I immediately started preparing. **Note about preparation: I prepared for about 2-3 hours every day. Do NOT cram!!** The recruiter and I touched base in the middle of that 9 day period to help me out with preparation - she explained to me that the questions asked were behavioral and hypothetical. So look at the job description, write up any specific job-related questions you think could be asked, and cross-reference with the most common behavioral/hypothetical interview questions. Then, practice your answers out loud.
3. The phone interviews were via Hangouts. Due to my rigorous prep, I did not feel nervous at all and instead felt very at ease. I was able to let my personality shine through and I think this really helped me, along with the fact that all my interviewers were friendly and conversational as well. There were about 2-3 questions asked per interview, depending on how long your answers were.
4. After the interviews, I was given a waiting period of a week to see if I would advance to the next step (hiring committee). This was probably the hardest part of the interview process due to the waiting. After a week, I was given the amazing news that they wanted to give me an offer!!!!
The process is really complicated, questions are really detailed. Need to prepare. Wishing you all huge success! I had 3 rounds and a prep call. Recruiters are really easy going and responsive.
Disorganized recruiting with random meeting invites with no explanations. Interviewer wasn’t welcoming at all and seemed to not care at all about the interview. The feedback call after the interview sounded like recruiter was reading an AI generating summary of the interview, which felt not personal at all. Overall awful experience.
