Business Roles - Placement Year Interview

      16 Feb 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at IBM (London, England) in Dec 2015

      Interview

Online Application Form - relatively easy to fill out, focus on competency questions and STAR approach Tests - this is followed by situational judgement tests and the notoriously difficult IPAT test - make sure you prepare for this but keep going even if you think you've failed. I thought I'd failed it for sure but I think part of it is the want to see that you keep going under pressure. From what I can remember it is around 60 questions, with each one timed at 1min15secs. Assessment Centre - A morning/afternoon at one of the regional offices. Everything really friendly and a chance to talk to current placement students. Order varies but the day consists of an individual interview followed by two different group exercises. One on a business problem and one re: logic. Individual interview pretty relaxed, make sure you put a lot of effort and detail into the presentation that you sent a week before - I did and that meant she only asked me around 2 questions because she said I'd already answered everything. Matching Process - Passed the assessment centre and put into the matching process, after around 1 week I was sent a role that I agreed to be interviewed for. This was a telephone interview with one of the managers that I'd be working with. This was one of the most difficult part of the processes which I wasn't really expecting - I thought it was just more checking they liked me but there were really specific questions asked. Unusually, I was then asked to do another telephone interview with a different manager a few days later - this one was much better and gave me a chance to ask specifics about the role.
