      Process Engineer Interview

      27 Dec 2011
      Anonymous employee
      Chandler, AZ
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Intel Corporation (Chandler, AZ) in Oct 2011

      Interview

I had been applying to Intel for many months during school, went to at least 2 career fairs and spoke with Intel reps and dropped off my resume. Applied to maybe 15 positions at various locations, but became discouraged when I found out about a hiring freeze in the fall. Then out of the blue I received an email inviting me for an onsite interview at Fab32 (no on campus interview or phone screen first). Flew me out for the weekend (thurs-sun) although interview was only for Fri morning. Arrived at 8am with 20 or so other candidates where we were presented with an overview of Intel and the benefits, info on AZ, etc. Then 2 one-hour 2:1 interviews, the first was technical and the second behavioral. I was most nervous about the technical portion, but the interviewers were very friendly and only asked me questions which I should be able to answer given my background. I am MatSci so they asked me about types of defects, stress/strain, crystals, and some polymers questions. Not very difficult if you pay attention in class. Also some statistics questions, which I am weak with but I told them up front that I didn't have much coursework on it. Still was able to answer about bell curve, std dev, etc but without formal definitions. They did not seem interested much in my research or background, they had a book of questions that they flipped through and found suitable questions. The behavioral interview was much harder in my opinion. Very intense, these were standard interview questions but sometimes long winded and confusing. Even if you don't have specific experiences that answer the question you have to think of something to say. Take your time but be prepared for follow up questions, they will try to throw you off and see if you can think quickly and logically. Keeping eye contact like that with two interviewers staring you down for one hour was tough. If I did not get an offer, I would have attributed it to the behavioral portion. Following that was a benefits presentation and lunch with your interviewers and other candidates. Overall very friendly people and experience, but you are always being evaluated. Intense but enjoyable. They said I would be contacted in two weeks but it was more than four before I got an official answer from them. Other than the waiting period the whole experience was pleasant and professional. Only makes me want to begin my career there more. Having the rest of the weekend to explore the valley was great as well.
