I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Macy's (Los Angeles, CA) in Aug 2010
Interview
Macy's was opening a new store in the area and they had posted a number of openings on their website. I applied online for Support Associate and received an email stating that they would like to schedule an interview. Macy's interview scheduling is entirely automated: you are given a choice of days and times that you would like to interview on. I selected the first available interview of the day (when the interviewer is fresh). I dressed in slacks with a buttoned shirt and tie. I was interviewed by the manager of the fine jewelry/cosmetics who was very friendly. Macy's has sheets and sheets of pre-written employment questions and the manager appeared to randomly choose several. For each response, the manager jotted down what she felt was important. Questions ranged from basic like "What do you know about Macy's as a company?" to "How would you deal with xyz situation?"
The manager thanked me and said that I would be receiving a phone call or email indicating if Macy's was interested or not. About two weeks passed before I received a phone call from the store's sales supervisor indicating they had a Support Associate position available. The starting wage was $8.25 and hour. Overall, I felt that the interview was conducted professionally and the questions were all manageable.
Macy's is a company that prides itself on the ethical conduct of its associates. Describe a situation at work or school where a coworker or classmate acted unethically. How did you resolve the situation?

Interview
I was interviewed by one woman, then she passed me on to another woman interview me after her and after that I was offered the job. The questions were fair and tough.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
When was the last time you made an impact in someone's life?
The interview process was not that hard. It consisted of a phone interview the a in person interview the following week. The questions they asked were not to hard or serious. I ended up getting a call back later that day with a job offering?
I applied online and got an email a few days later to schedule an interview with them. I selected a day to go in and it was surprisingly it was pretty simple!
