An internal recruitment agent reached out to me about a big data lead engineer role. The initial interview was a technical screening session. One of the interviewers kept asking less important technical questions like "What's a lambda function in Java 8" etc. The role was advertised for someone who can do architecture, data streaming etc. Not to test Junior Software Engineer level knowledge. They also seemed to be in a dinosaur age, because the Java 8 was cutting edge for them. The whole interview didn't suit the lead engineer position. The interviewers weren't open to accept the broad/alternative answers. I felt like they just following a script. They need to sort out their recruitment process and hire strong engineers if they want to compete with players like Amazon.
