I interviewed with Paylocity over a period of 2 months. The people were nice and intelligent. The recruiter seemed new and not always helpful in answering my questions. Overall positive, but was not able to receive feedback on my skills or performance.
Application: I submitted my application via a job post on LinkedIn and was contacted within 1 week.
Interview #1 - Internal Recruiter: I spoke with a recruiter about the role, which was a mid-level role, tbd area in platform depending upon skill and fit. They have nearly 20 product designers, and many more UX designer - big team. They asked general questions about my experience, and decided to submit me to hiring manager.
Follow up call for next interview: The recruiter called to schedule interview with hiring manager. I liked that they called me with updates instead of emails. When asked if this would be a informational call or portfolio review, I was told "could be either, just prepare for anything." Generally this was the recruiters vibe. They were nice, but not always helpful.
Interview #2 - Hiring Manager : They were based out of Chicago like most of design team. Very nice, friendly person. Questions about my process, and a project that was didn't go as planned. I shared one project, which was well received.
Final Interview: I was asked to be interviewed with the team over 2 days, 4 hours total. 1 with a project Manager, 1 with Head of UX, 1 with Head of UX Group, and another with 2 Product Designers at the same time to share a project. I was provided a choice of a design challenge (create a new projected based on a prompt) or simply show an existing project. I chose one I already had because why would I create something new?
Everyone I spoke to was easy to speak with, kind, intelligent. The project I chose was very positively received by the people I shared it with. The PM I met with was nice, but hadnt interviewed a designer in a while, and the interview just seemed to appear on their calendar. They also asked to see a project, which I didn't expect for, but they were very impressed.
Final Call with Recruiter: I received a phone call from the recruiter saying I did not get the role and that 'they did not receive a reason." When I pressed if I could get any feedback after nearly 6 total hours of speaking to the company, they just repeated that they didn't get any feedback. I was very frustrated by this to be honest.
