      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Qantas (Brisbane) in June 2019

      Interview

It is important to note that the interview process with Qantas is not one that will go quickly. There is a large waiting time from actually applying to any recognition of employment My wait time was approximately 4 months from when I applied, however, at least a month of that was the fault of Qantas apparently re-evaluating their business plan. So the interview itself consisted of a group interview, some minor testing and checking documents. The test was simple and easy personally you are provided with a manual and you must answer the questions by searching through the manual. This is then followed by a presentation and a group activity. The group activity consisted of pictures of objects, items etc and you had to put them in order of priority. For example, blood bags, organs, bicycles, a dog, musical instruments. You then have to explain and justify your answers. Once this is done you leave the room and wait for a 1 on 1 interview with a manager or senior member in your department. I can't recall all the questions, however, they are quite basic but, it should be noted that they probe you to determine if you would be okay with working in rough conditions, i.e. rain, cold, heat, early starts, late finishes, etc. After this is done you simply leave and commence the waiting period and clearances for your ASIC. It is important to note that if you reach the interview stage you're classed as "The Pool of Candidates" which means if they have a position available they come to you first. That is if you don't get the job straight up. On the day they inform you that the position is casual and potentially after 12 months you may be offered part-time employment (maybe). However, they advertised the position as part-time which I found a little sneaky. If you get progressed you will have to do a medical as well which is at a physio which tests everything from hearing, lifting capabilities, drug test and overall general fitness. You must pass this to work for Qantas. Also, you have to pay for it yourself approx $300 for a job you may not end up getting. I am a fairly young bloke and I felt as if I was the youngest in the room of veterans in the industry, but, from the looks of things, there were only four people including myself who came through from an intake of around 30 + people.

Requires common sense and team skills as well as answering questions from a information sheet. The process isn't hard unless you have no common sense, read English and present poorly
