      Customer Success Remote Guru Interview

      27 May 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Ottawa, ON
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Shopify (Ottawa, ON) in May 2016

      Interview

      1) Create a shop with products, add apps, 3 blog posts, an about me section, etc. - very time-consuming 2) Skype interview with HR - friendly conversation about me, why I want to work for shopify. Really easy. 3) Gauntlet - 3 hour long test with a Shopify employee who administrates the experience and acts as the customer. I answered three email questions, answered to two phone calls (over skype) and one chat. There were 30 minute time frames. I prepared for this portion by familiarizing myself with the entire Shopify and Shopify help sites, and looking through queries made online and finding answers then writing them out over a weeks time. Questions were tough, and I had trouble finding answers at some points, but I always ended up finding them. I knew in the moment it would have been easier with some further training. There were trick questions in there (i.e. a situation where a customer asked for something to be done, but it wasn't possible). Use links, and as they will tell you "be resourceful". Be confident in your answers and take the administrators feedback and use it for your next answers if you can. Unfortunately, didn't receive an offer although I felt confident about my performance in the Gauntlet. I did not feedback on my performance, or any reasoning to why I was not selected. I was simply told "that they'd be going with another candidate". The entire process took nearly two months between waiting to hear back, and booking my call and gauntlet. This seems like a company made up with great people, but the interview process is a time commitment with no end promises. That shouldn't be the case.

Thanks for this feedback! A 2 month interview process is definitely not normal for us. It does take 2 to 3 weeks to complete all the steps. Our team has daily interview availability and Gauntlet spots. We do our best to offer a range of times throughout the week in order to accommodate everyones schedule. Building a store is going to take some time. We know you aren't familiar with the platform - but that is the point. To challenge you. It is the same idea with the Gauntlet. It is a challenge. Even after 12 weeks of training, there is no way to know everything. Our team is resourceful and reaches out to their teams for help when they need it. The Gauntlet pushes your resourcefulness to the max to see what information you can find. Feedback is 100% something we offer! If you aren't happy with the answer the Talent Acquisition team gave you, email your recruiter and ask them for feedback. If you still aren't happy, ask to connect with their lead. ;) I hope this information helps

      Application

      Interview

Multi stage process, roleplay "gauntlet" interview is final stage. They ask you to make a shopify store to prepare which means making a shopify account, dont think this is a fair ask for job interview as your giving up your data.

      Anonymous interview candidate
      Dublin, Dublin
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Dublin, Dublin) in July 2020

      Interview

      1. Typing speed test 2. Video interview: life story interview 3. Technical test: I found quite intense. I had to do so many things at the same time that I got overwhelmed. I was so nervous before the test that I did not perform well. I did prepared myself as much as I could. Played around with my fake online store, read the FAQ page and much more.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Shopify (Edmonton, AB) in Dec 2019

      Interview

Basically a fill in the blank scenario and then a phone interview. They really should do these over skype or Zoom, it's so difficult to have an interview without seeing someone. The person that interviewed me was in Zombie mode and had zero enthusiasm so it just seems like a waste of my time off the bat. As if she didn't even want to be talking to me. Really threw me off.

Hi, there. I'm sorry to hear about the interview experience you've outlined in your review! The Life Story part of the process is designed to be a conversational back and forth between you and the interviewer. This gives us a chance to get to know you're personality, and lets you feel comfortable enough to ask us any questions you may have about the role. From what you've outlined above, this fell far below our standards. I would encourage you to reach back out to the recruiter who interviewed you to inquire about gathering feedback! Alternatively, we could take this conversation to email so that we can inquire with our talent team for you. Be sure to send us an email including as many details as you can (ie/ your interview date and the name of your recruiter), then we can begin digging into it for you. You can send us an email using this link: https://bit.ly/2ICKkCX. Adding 'Glassdoor' as the subject link of the email will ensure we can find your email faster. Thank you for leaving a review here and for flagging this with us. I do hope this does not deter you from applying again in the future when you feel ready!
