Unconventional which seemed Ok at first. The place had a real cult of personality vibe to it. Everyone was nice, but I really did get the sense of a "we are holier than thou feeling".
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Boo) in June 2018
Interview
Brief phone screening followed by a life story interview, followed by discussion with manager, followed by interview with Doug Tezner, followed by reverse life story interview. Their life story interview is very intriguing and definitely a fun way to be interviewed. It allows the recruiters to get to know you and what interests them about you. They let their curiosity lead the way so they may focus on parts of your life that may seem irrelevant to your job search. Trust the process! The individuals that I met were professional and friendly and came across as bright and as individuals that I shared professional values with. I do think that they need to reconsider a more thorough pre-screening process. It is a time and emotional investment to interview and consider a career/job change. Be prepared to spend time interviewing, they want to get to know you. Don't assume because you have 3 or 4 interviews that you are a foot in the door. I had 4 interviews and spent 4+ hours out of my work week to meet with Shopify. At the end of the process, I was given a brief reason, I wasn't the right fit for what they were looking for. Had their pre-screening been more thorough, this could have been avoided but they have their reasons. Definitely a disappointing end result for me but I trust that if they did not see me as a fit, there are better suited roles out there for me- and that may very well be where i am right now. Hoo
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Life story, questions about volunteer experience, specific questions about past recruiting experience.
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in Aug 2024
Interview
The process was unnecessarily long, lacked direction and at times irrelevant. The technical test was essentially a 3 question test on excel functions.
The life story was one of the strangest interviews I have been involved in. The recruiter came off as arrogant and disinterested. At times I felt like they were just gathering information on my previous employers. Judging by some of the comments on their company culture, I'm glad I dodged a bullet.
Zero feedback received too which says it all about their culture.

Question 1
Why do you think you are good enough to work for Shopify?
The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in July 2024
Interview
The recruitment process I went through was quite interesting and involved several stages. First, I completed an online test that evaluated my behavioral and logical skills. After that, I had an online meeting with the recruiter. This was followed by another online session specifically designed to test my data skills. Then, there was a life story interview, and the last stage was a reverse life story interview. I received feedback within about 1.5 weeks.
