I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify (Toronto, ON) in Aug 2024
Interview
Communication was intermittent and unclear.
I went through 5 interviews, one was like an HR screening, another was my "life story" just another HR screen, another that was an online psyc and aptitudes assessment and other two of which where live case studies.
---
The case studies where similar in structure. They share some problem statement, let you digest for 5-10 min and then you solve live with the interviewer.
I did't mind the format, and enjoyed a problem solving session.
Unsure about the consistency in evaluating candidates.
The first case study I "did very well" quoting the interviewer.
The second one was the exact same structure just different Shopify topic, and the feedback I got was so specific to my knowledge of their platform. Which I find incredibly unfair, to have such expectation of a candidate that has a full time job and a life. Of course I prepared, but there will always be gaps to the details of how such a big business operates.
