      Frontend Software Engineer Interview

      9 Oct 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Slack in Oct 2023

      Interview

Applied through a referral, and went through a recruiter screen and behavioral interview. I appreciate that they try to make it better than most technical interviews but IMO it still falls short. The recruiter was friendly and said it would be an informal chat, but then fired off a list of questions and didn't directly answer several of mine. I was told during that call I'd be moved forward in the process. They also let me know that the next round would be behavioral questions and technical questions related to my past experience. During the next interview, I got very few technical questions about my past projects, but was asked about system design and web animations. This threw me off because I wasn't prepared for it. There shouldn't be such a disconnect between the recruiter's prep and the literal first interview. I also was told it was meant to be a conversation but I wasn't left much time for my own questions at the end. I think it would be an average interview if you were properly prepared for it. I don't think the process is very inclusive for neurodivergent people like me, especially if you are thrown off when prepared improperly or have difficulty recalling specific past events on the spot

      Software Engineer - FrontEnd Interview

      16 Nov 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Toronto, ON
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (Toronto, ON) in Sept 2021

      Interview

Submitted resume, and got response 3-4 days after. Week 1: Recruiter call Week 2: HM video call Week 3: Take home exercise Week 4 & 5: Broke down onsite interview process into two days Week 6 & 7: Headcount was cancelled for the team I interviewed with, so went through a few rounds of team matching calls Week 7: Offer! Things took a little bit longer than expected, but the process felt very smooth thanks to the recruiter in charge. They were very responsive, and ensured that, despite hiccups here and there (e.g. technical difficulties), I was always brought up to speed with where the process is at.

      Question 1

This is not your usual technical interview with leetcoding, and the interviewer will pick your brain to understand your thought process.
