      Claims Adjuster Trainee Interview

      21 Mar 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Travelers

      Interview

I applied for a claims adjuster trainee position, passed the assessment online, and it took pretty close to a month to get a phone interview. The phone interview was pretty standard and the recruiter I spoke to from the home office was really kind (make sure you have questions for them and are able to highlight relevant skills and experiences on your resume, as well as answer using STAR method!!) After that, I waited approx. another 2 weeks or maybe longer until I was contacted to schedule an interview. Person I spoke to wouldn’t let me come in that same week, and the way the person talked to me quite honestly made me feel like I was a huge thorn in their side for scheduling an interview.... They didn’t even give me the full address to the interview site and acted bothered. They essentially hung up on me as I was asking a question. They didn’t give me any more details about the position, how to prepare, what the process was like at all. I brushed it off, but since then in other interview experiences I see how this is not the standard most places. So another week later I finally get to the in person interview. It was 3 hours long and I was asked about 20 STAR questions, most of them being so redundant the interviewers didn’t even bother finishing with asking them because I had already answered the same question phrased differently multiple times. It was the most grueling interview process I’ve been through. I did like that I got to sit with an employee who does the job. I also appreciate they take their time vetting candidates so well, but like I mentioned it’s far too redundant. Just when I thought this process was finally coming to an end, it took another month + to even hear back (despite my completely ignored follow up attempt). The leadership also seemed very shaky as I didn’t interview with any kind of manager or supervisor for the position I applied for, which was a red flag for me personally. I ended up getting an email recently saying they had filled the position. Months from my initial application. Process is way too long, most people will be pursuing other opportunities or lose interest when treated like that; no respect for you time in this process. Questions asked are too redundant. If it’s going to be that long of an interview, ask different questions not the same ones worded differently several times.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Travelers (Hunt Valley, MD) in Apr 2025

      Interview

2 rounds. 1st was phone screening, recruiter was friendly and did not ask detailed questions about resume which was surprising. Focused more on interest in Trainee role and Travelers. Took about 40 minutes. 2nd was in-person interviews. Plural. Three separate interviews back to back: 1st was with panel of Unit Managers and Director. STAR format, probably about 1 hour. 2nd was peer interview with someone who finished the Trainee program. Much more casual, conversational format, about 20-30 minutes. 3rd was with regional vice president. STAR format again, honestly do not remember how long it was because my brain started running on auto-pilot towards the end of VP's questions. Took 3-4 weeks for original application to be picked by recruiter for that phone screening. Got a call 1 week after phone screening to schedule in-person interview panels. Took 2 weeks after in-person interviews to hear back.

      Interview

It was friendly, efficient, and transparent. Their communication was good throughout. The process included one recruiter contact, one preliminary phone call, one small panel over zoom, and then a zoom with Corporate.

      Application

I interviewed at Travelers (Hartford, CT)

      Interview

The interview process involved multiple stages, including a required assessment. Unfortunately, no feedback was provided at any stage, which left me without a clear understanding of my performance or areas for improvement. The lack of communication throughout the process was disappointing.
