I applied for a position listed as remote on Eastern Standard Time. I am well-qualified and have over 15 years experience with this type of work. I was super-excited to get an interview. I thought USAA was a great company and corporate culture is important to me along with an organization's mission.
Imagine my surprise when I get an automated email saying I was no longer being considered and someone more closely aligned with the role was selected. Not even a personal note. I wrote to the recruiter thinking it was a mistake...and she apologize and said I needed to live near San Antonio and she should have contacted me before me getting an email. This was a mistake...but imagine my surprise when I get a call from the person I was supposed to interview with asking to talk with me. I was away from my phone, but left him a message and wrote back to the same recruiter that I was confused by interview call. They then have this same position posted in Florida (while I'm not in Tampa, no one even asked if I was willing to move. Another apology. I am disappointed in the time I wasted applying, lack of professionalism with how I was notified (reason not even accurate) and then yet another note from the recruiter that didn't address the real question. I know the market is tough right now for many employers. Candidates should be treated like customers too. I understand mistakes...but this experience is a poor reflection of the USAA brand.
