      Customer Service Representative Interview

      19 Feb 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Waterloo, IA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at UnitedHealth Group (Waterloo, IA) in Aug 2009

      Interview

The interview process for United Health Care is interesting. You complete an assessment online and are then notified if you qualify to go further. You then get a notice by email if they want you to come in for a testing interview. They give you instructions on where you need to go for the testing and what time you need to be there. They have large groups all test at the same time. Once you fill out the information on the computer, you take several different tests to test your skills in a variety of software programs and your typing skills, listening skills, etc. If you pass those tests, then they make a decision if they are interested in interviewing you in person and call and set up a time to meet with the recruiter. Then if they are still interested in you, they call and have you come in for a second interview with a supervisor. Then you may or mat not get selected for the job. IF you are, you get an email from the company stating you have been selected and then get a phone call with instructions on the pre-screening drug test you need to do. Provided you pass that, you are then ready to start the job with the company in a few weeks when their next group training session. They also select alternates in case some of the people they selected initially decide they don't want the job. I was one of the alternates for my group. I was very disappointed when I found out I initially did not get the job. However about two weeks later, I received a call that someone had opted out so I was chosen as the replacement for them. This was somewhat of a nerve-wracking process. I was very happy to get the call for the job, but felt somewhat slighted that I was not selected initially. The interview process gave somewhat of a false hope with being called in for a second interview and then not being selected in the first group to be called and only being an alternate. The staff were all very friendly when I went in for my interviews and I was impressed as everyone seemed to really enjoy their job.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The most difficult question was about dealing with irate customers who were unhappy about the way their claim was handled. I had not had much call center experience, so I had to adapt another situation from my previous job of dealing with difficult people. This answered their question overall, but I knew they were looking for more experience with handling incoming calls specifically.
