I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Verizon in June 2010
Interview
phone interview was asked simple skills questions application was filled out in person. I had to submit and app, then i waited VZ(bell atlantic at the time), to call with job offers. Several offers were made before they called wih a job i was qualified for. I'm pretty sure that the process is more advanced now, probably more online and less phone contact . I filled out an application, took a basic skills test and a more advanced test for the cable splicing position. Prior knowledge would have been nice but was not necessary. The test seem to be more about your propensity to learn and adapt, rather than what you actually knew.

Question 1
there was a flow chart on the test, and if you answered one question wrong every answer after it would have been wrong also. don't remember much, it was 15 years ago
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Verizon (Stroudsburg, PA) in Dec 2023
Interview
Was requested to arrive at a Work Garage where outside technicians report and are dispatched to perform daily tasks. Was interviewed by the Local Manager in charge of outside technicians and the Senior cable splicing technician. It was a very laid back environment, and was encouraged to relax and be myself. Both were very friendly. The interview process is based heavily upon the behavioral questions and how you are graded on your answers. Although I had 17 years experience in the electrical industry I was not offered a position because of some of my answers to the behavioral based questioning. I have noticed most of the Local Managers are professional managers and typically have no experience in the positions you may be interviewing for.

Question 1
Tell me about a time you were required to perform a task, and it was not what you thought it was going to be?
