      Senior Systems Engineer Interview

      19 June 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Visa Inc. (Austin, TX) in Apr 2015

      Interview

I got an email from the recruiter in January end about the new position for Sr Systems Engineer and asked for the time slots to reach out to me. I have provided the time slots but I never heard back from the recruiter after that. Since I graduated in December and already had a job which started that week I didn't follow up with the recruiter as to why she didn't respond me. In Feb end, I got an email from another recruiter who wanted to setup an interview for the same position. I again sent her the schedule and didn't hear back till the end of next week. I finally received the call to fix my first interview with the Director. The interview with the director went well as it was mostly Resume based and contained some technical questions. A week after I had an interview with another manager and it was almost the same with more emphasis on behavioral questions. It was around mid-march that I completed the two round of interview In April, I finally got a call for the onsite interview round and to my surprise I didn't get my tickets confirmed by VISA team before two days of the final interview date. I was really unhappy about the process VISA followed with getting back to their candidates. Finally the interview day. I had around 3 one hour interview out of which 2 interviews were behavioral and one interview was purely technical with lots of questions. Since, I didn't have much experience in UNIX, LINUX, BASH Scripting and networking the interviewer asked general theoretical questions on these topics and wanted to just test my approach and logical thinking about any topic. The other two were mostly behavioral with typical questions starting from 'Tell me a time when'......no surprise questions at all. I felt that I have answered all the questions but still got a reject. Maybe they found a suitable candidate with more experience in UNIX , LINUX etc which I lacked in my skills. VISA didn't pay for the hotel, travel, parking expense rather they asked me to fill the reimbursement form which I filled and sent them in a couple of days. Till date I have not received any reimbursement amount and every 2 weeks I get a mail from a different person saying that they will handle my reimbursement case and then no mail until two weeks. As a new graduate, I feel that 150-200 bucks is good hefty amount and that too when you get a reject. (:. I feel that the interviewers were good but I am certainly not happy with the recruiters and HR people who conduct these interviews.

      Senior Systems Engineer Interview

      24 Oct 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Visa Inc. in Oct 2015

      Interview

I was contacted by the Visa recruiter and we went over my qualifications. I had applied for a different job, and she directed me to the Sr. Systems Engineer job. An initial call with the hiring manager was scheduled where we discussed my qualifications, the position, and how my skills fit in. The next step was to have a panel interview over the phone with members from the team. The last step was to have an interview with senior management.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Typical technical questions that applied to the position. With senior management interview, they focused on decision making (what was a difficult business decision you have made, what was the outcome?) and long term goals.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Visa Inc. in Aug 2015

      Interview

The whole interview had 2 rounds of Tech, 1 round of techno-managerial and the last one a HR round. As the expectation of my skill set was niche, all the interviews were done by panels im telephonic discussions from various spread out locations. All the rounds were very elaborate and had given me a good detail of the job. The questions and interaction was really good as it really made sense in all levels. Although the interview went for a very long time at each phase, I believe this is dependent on the job and other parameters surrounding it's expectations.

Explanation of problem that happened in real project environment and what were the measures taken to get it resolved
