I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Walmart (Port Saint Lucie, FL) in July 2012
Interview
Did the application in-store; took about 45 minutes. I got a call a few days later to schedule an interview for a few days later. Once I got there I waited a bit in the site to store pickup before being called back. 3 managers interview you at one time while asking you standard interview questions: Difficult situations you've been in and how you handled it etc. After that they said they'd call me in a few days once they've interviewed the other applicants.
After about 2.5 weeks I finally got a call for a second interview. They asked me to bring 2 forms of ID. I got there and waited an hour because they forgot about me. Once back there I basically went through the same process again. They then asked for my Identification, asked me if I wanted the job, showed me my salary, and sent me for a drug test.
I had to come in for orientation a couple of days later on Thursday (their pay day) which began my first day there. You train by reviewing videos and then doing assessments on the PC. Once you feel confident they'll send you out on the floor to work with a "veteran" cashier. After learning you can request your login number and id which will grant you access to your own register.
Phone interview and then asked to come in for in person interview. The hiring manager asked typical interview questions. Why do you want to work here? And asked bout scheduling availability,
There was a lot of questions but overall it went pretty decent. They were your standard interview questions. I am happy with the outcome but maybe I could do better next time.
Solid and very well informative process. It was straightforward and well put together. I really enjoyed the people that I interacted with and ultimately chose another route due to time constraints.
