The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Walmart (Edmonton, AB) in Feb 2009
Interview
1. Applied by application
2. Received Phone call about one week later to schedule an interview
3. We agreed on Wednesday at 4:00pm, I showed up wearing a suit because I just left my court sentencing
4. They were interviewing about 5 other people, and so mine didn't take place until roughly 4:10pm
5. I was led in by an HR rep. who seems like she has dealt with enough non-English speakers for one day
6. I was told to take a seat by a table which had a folder on it
7. The interviewer asked me which position I was applying for, my experience etc.
8. He had me fill out a criminal record check, and a medical check. He photocopied my license and SIN card
9. Up to this point the time would be about 4:30, he told me it would take a couple weeks for the checks to come back
10. I received a phone call a couple weeks later for orientation
11. Orientation consisted of meeting the new employees, filling out tax forms, and touring the store.
12. This was also day 1 of what they call CBLs (Computer Based Learning) which is a nauseating computer program featuring animated corporate toons bending over for the customer :)
FYI: There is no way to skip the video, though all you need to pass it is common sense.
13.CBLs complete, now they tell me Wal-Mart Full Time is actually 28hrs per week.
14. They insist I have experience (I was a 2nd year apprentice) only to find out the TLE techs don`t know what a gear ratio is
15. A union shop would have paid me 70% of Journeyman wage, not $9.40
16. Quit, almost 2 weeks later. But what an experience!
