      Account Executive Interview

      2 Feb 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Yelp in Jan 2014

      Interview

I was connected the day I applied to setup a phone interview and had emailed with two or three recruiters. All email correspondence was very static, impersonal and not friendly. The phone interviewer was nice enough. We did a voice mail scenario, she offered me criticisms and I left "a better voicemail" for next time. We also had a chance to bond over similar work histories and she pushed me along to the next round. That day I was contacted by email to set up an in person and the first available interview was over a week later. During the in person interview they take a small group of interviewees on a brief walk through of the sales floor where other Account Execs are busy working... many of the AE's looked up from their desks to acknowledge us but there were no smiles or nods... or any sign of this place being enjoyable to work for. First, I interviewed with two girls who did more role playing with me. This time I had to call a the owner of a hair salon and sell her Yelp Ads. I did an okay job and was given criticisms including that I sounded fake since my phone voice is different from my real voice. Despite that, I though I was able to redeem myself after trying again. Next, I did a role playing with a gentleman who seemed to also be very systematic, I did a fine job, smiled and nodded.

      Question 1

You are expected to read through the lines when the interviewer tells you things like "I am the owner," "I usually advertise though the local news paper."
