STEC gets on the stick when it comes to memory. STEC specializes in memory products such as flash solid-state drives (SSDs) and dynamic random access memory (DRAM) modules that are used in high-performance storage systems and servers, embedded industrial, and other applications. STEC buys DRAMs and flash memory devices from Micron Technology, Samsung Electronics, and Toshiba, and enhances them with its proprietary firmware. EMC, IBM, Hitachi, and SMART Modular are among its largest customers. STEC's manufacturing operations are located in Malaysia; the company gets more than half of its sales from customers outside the US.
