Pros

I have found while working for ADVO they have provided a supportive and transparent working environment. Their values are upheld and they constantly push to make positive change while ensuring the employees work life balance/ mental health and physical health are all taken into consideration and adapted too. I have worked in WCA for nearly 8 years and found in previous companies I was stuck, within 4 months of being with ADVO I was encouraged to apply for a lead role as they saw my potential and I was successful. The development opportunities are not promises but are upheld and I really respect that protected time to learn and develop is protected. It can be a difficult change from being in a clinical setting but I’ve found it really beneficial and I have seen a world of nursing I didn’t know existed.

Cons

The initial training can be heavy and quality assurance is of high priority. A few things to consider are: You need good typing skills and computer skills as it is computer based, you need to be able to type and talk at the same time. Be resilient especially in the beginning while you await approval from the DWP and are having assessments reviewed but this can be seen as a great development opportunity. Have great communication skills not only for the people we assess but within your team, as it is usually a hybrid contract working remotely means you need to ensure you are communicating effectively.

Pros

You will be supported by both operational and clinical senior team members throughout your training and throughout your employment. There are multiple opportunities for progression depending where your passion or interests are. A very knowledgeable senior clinical team, time is taken by them to review feedback and challenges. Achievements are acknowledged and celebrated. Even with remote working, you still feel like you are able to develop positive work relationships.

Cons

Your initial training can be a challenging time, you will have to demonstrate both professional and emotional resilience during the first 6 months. You receive a high level of feedback during this time, if approached with an open and constructive mind frame, this can allow you to become a strong, confident knowledgeable functional assessor. Being open and honest with both clinical and operation staff with any challenges you are facing, will result in additional support, supervision and coaching.

Pros

- Overall a fantastic experience to enter the role with supporting phone calls, and email from the manager to offer a visit to the office. Likewise, a very professional exit experience, with exit interview, kindness and support and letters detailing all information in lead up to last day -Fantastic new entrant programme with very supportive caring staff, it felt so welcoming at the induction and then continued to support with a very thorough online training with role plays and feedback. -On-going support to help with improvement -2 weekly 15 minute sessions with the team online to learn and share - Very flexible manager allowing Working from home or office to suits medical appointments and needs -A team of very knowledgeable and patient clinical leads who strive to help you and don't mind answering the same questions and help you to not feel silly and truly supported. - Incentives to pass approval and over time opportunities

Cons

As an OT you are on the backfoot as you do not know about all medical conditions in such detail compared to other health colleagues. This is very important to be able to do the job well. You are expected to be able to notice inconsistencies in any medication and any symptoms, which can be challenging when this is not something you have studied. It can be tough when you are used to working in a patient facing setting and enjoy being hands on with helping others to recover. This is an office job and you can offer empathy and kindness over the phone but that is pretty much all. - You need to go into detail about people's mental health, asking about self harm, sucide etc, and this can be hard as an awkward person who does not want to pry into someone's life if they are not forth coming with information. - 2 cases a day has been a challenge, but when you get approved there is an expectation to do 5 a day, so it is good to be aware that this will be challenging and to really think hard about the ability to change from a patient facing role into a fast paced office job.
