Toxic Leadership

Pros

A decent product and decent pay

Cons

The poor senior leadership at this fintech startup was a major factor in the toxic work environment and the overall negative experience. The management team was unprofessional and made poor decisions that negatively impacted the entire organization. They lacked the experience, expertise, and ability to make sound decisions that could have positively impacted the company's performance and growth. The communication from the senior "leadership" (I use that term loosely as they are NO leaders) team was poor, and there was a lack of transparency and trust among employees. The management team failed to provide clear goals, expectations, and guidance, which made it difficult for the organization to succeed. They often changed priorities and strategies without adequate communication, leaving employees confused and unsure of what to do next. In addition, the senior leadership team fostered a cut-throat environment where employees were pitted against one another. There was little to no collaboration, and teamwork was not encouraged. This created an unhealthy and stressful work environment where people were more focused on themselves and their titles rather than working together to achieve shared goals. Furthermore, the senior leadership team's lack of support and direction made it difficult to get anything done. They did not provide sufficient resources, training, or tools to help employees succeed. Instead, they often blamed people and pointed fingers at people for the company's lack of success, rather than taking responsibility for their own shortcomings. Overall, the poor senior leadership at Alviere was a significant factor in the company's toxic culture, low morale, and relatively little success. It was a frustrating and unproductive place to work, and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a positive and professional work environment.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Admittedly, there were challenges and areas where we fell short. We have taken steps to address these issues, including investing in leadership development programs, hiring experienced leaders, and implementing regular communication and feedback channels. We’ve been working to improve our communication channels to ensure that our goals, strategies, and expectations are clear and shared across teams.

Pros

- Cool work space - currently in a coworking spot in Wash Park. - Free coffee, nitro cold brew and kombucha - Fast-paced tech environment - Startup company - get in on the ground floor

Cons

- No work-life balance. The CEO said verbatim in a company-wide meeting, "I do not believe in work-life balance. It's all just life." - Bad people management - Misleading job descriptions and job titles - Boy's Club culture - if you're not in, you're out. - No diversity, especially in management - Chief people Officer has zero HR experience and no tact or respect when speaking to people - Unlimited PTO is not really unlimited - Meetings are constantly canceled at the last minute OR after the start - No respect for anyone's time.

We love our workspace too! The office environment is very fun, and the work, as you mentioned, is very fast-paced and can be demanding at times, especially as we are breaking into and helping define a new industry. We know the startup world isn’t for everyone. There is a lot of ambiguity, not a lot of processes in place, last-minute changes to meetings and other plans, and it can mean that people have to work after hours to meet deadlines. Working in a startup environment can also mean that we have limited resources, which is where our collaborative and supportive team members come into play — we all pitch in to help other departments, even if it means working outside of our typical day-to-day or job description. We are making strides in our diversity efforts and our leaders are focused on and committed to creating a more diverse workforce.

Pros

Alviere started with good intentions and great direction. Remote work is always great. The entire team was extremely talented and great to work with!

Cons

Due to lack of overall organization, poor communication, including disjointed management and leadership- it was hard to succeed. The company expanded way too fast, and was running before it could walk - costing amazing, talented people to lose their jobs during peak inflation. Then those people were forced to sign “severance” in the form of an NDA to keep quiet of all the illusions Alviere presents as a company. Dishonesty. Many employees were concerned of layoffs in December 2022. We brought this to the attention of management. We were ignored and told that we are “lucky” to still have jobs and the company was fine, etc - just to be laid off 2 months later and that benefits END at midnight the same day. Absolutely disgusting. Micromanagement. I was never allowed to take ownership of my job or what I was actually hired for. When I say complete chaos across the board - that would be an understatement. The constant shift of company direction lead to months and months of stagnancy on repeat. Absolutely no one could get anything done that actually mattered or made a difference because most of the time is spent on ideation instead of execution, changing teams, ZERO set workflow processes, deadlines, nothing. It was honestly more of a headache than it was worth. They promised bonuses that they cancelled halfway through 2022, and as a failing company the equity is worthless now.

We appreciate the review, and want to respond to your comments. Unfortunately, the volatility of the market is something we cannot control, yet most powerfully impacts our business and the lives of our team members. In this context, we had to make some very difficult decisions. Obviously, we read these comments, and work hard to address them across the company. We strive to ensure our team has clear, understandable, and realistic goals, but we’re not perfect at communicating them, yet. We are committed to having more regular and clear communication about our objectives and vision, so this feedback fuels that improvement.
