Pros

- Met some really great consultants at the company - L&D training and specific trainer - Great marketing manager

Cons

Unfortunately the reality of what was offered in the job interview is far from what you experience working at Amicus. Benefits such as, flexible working and work from home days are not welcomed. There is awful leadership from Directors/Founders within the business including: micromanagement, daily checks on phone times, praising overworking, being told 'it's not wise' to leave at 5.30pm, encouraging burn out and constant comparison to other consultants. There is little to no communication throughout the company, and often consultants aren't consulted on serious decisions that would affect your day to day work. The lack of communication and whispers between top level management create a terrible work place culture. Scare tactics are used to ensure you get your head down and stay later than your working hours. Therefore, consultants don't want to speak out and give feedback as they are scared of the repercussions.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, although we are disappointed to read some of the comments. It’s regretful that short time you were with Amicus was unsuccessful. We are very honest with both current and new employees that recruitment isn't a 9am - 5:30pm career. It's an incredibly rewarding career, but as one of the most competitive & demanding sales roles in the world, it requires dedication, hard work and ambition to be consistently successful. We’re clear that if you’re not looking for a career, but instead are looking for a job where you can clock watch or do the bare minimum required, then recruitment isn’t for you. We offer flexibility and working from home options for employees once they have passed probation, however if someone is significantly underperforming and would benefit from additional support & 1-2-1 training from the in-house L&D manager, then we would recommend that person would benefit from being in the office. It’s important to highlight that if a manager draws attention to the fact that someone has made zero calls in an entire day, in a role that by design is to speak to people, then this is not ‘micromanagement’, it is simply ‘management’. The suggestion of ‘taking on board other ways of working’ is helpful, providing it’s not the one that yields no results. We wish you the very best of luck and would be more than happy to discuss any of your comments in person if you wish to do so.

Pretty Poor

Pros

Some staff are brilliant, and i suppose the office was easy to get to.

Cons

Outdated and poor working practices. Commitment to best in class tools includes the need to consistently call through an existing database and strip leads. Whilst stripping active candidates is a tried and tested BD method there are others to try. Also calling through the same candidates asking if they're looking can't be the only string to your bow. You need job board access to refresh your database, because consultants firing linkedin profiles into sourcebreaker to hit a KPI can't be your sole way of gaining new candidates. Restrictive markets, directors routinely standing outside the office door discussing staff in hushed tones doesn't inspire confidence (use a different room, nobody wants to walk past that on the way to the toilet). Also Honesty absolutely isn't a core value of the firm, it's a buzzword that sounds good but isn't applied in practice. Day set out hour by hour, huge periods of utter silence, zero sales buzz on the sales floor. Probably the most restrictive and flat sales environment I've ever experienced, even if there was a dart board and a daily football quiz on lunch.

Thank you for your review and it’s regretful that your time at Amicus was not a successful one. I feel it appropriate to address a few of your concerns for the benefit of future employees who may be reading this. Firstly, we understand that our recruitment methods are not for everyone, particularly those who have worked in another recruitment agency, have been trained in a different way and are not open to learning new skills and approaches; however, they are methods that have resulted us building a multi-million-pound business with 30 employees, across two continents, in just 6 years, so we believe they work. Our teams’ successes through these methods have been recognised nationally with us being nominated and winning awards such as ‘Best Newcomer’, ‘Best Recruitment Agency under 50 employees’, ‘Best Technical Recruitment Agency’ and ‘Best New Employee Onboarding’. Whilst our old temporary office space had no meeting rooms, making it difficult for managers to discuss strategic decisions within the office, our new dedicated 50-person office in Manchester has multiple meeting room spaces & a large breakout space with private pods for private collaboration purposes. You’ll be pleased to know we have a Sonos sound system that plays the teams favourite tunes throughout the day to add to the positive, friendly office environment. If anyone is looking for a ‘wolf of wall street’ high pressure sales environment, Amicus isn’t likely to be the right environment for them. I would invite you to personally reach out to us directly if you would like to discuss your concerns further.

Pros

Nice office space All consultants are friendly and easy to get on with Drinks and early finish on a Friday

Cons

Toxic leadership - there is a clear hostility from the two directors towards employees, often rude and unprofessional in both their words and actions. There is a clear lack of trust and respect towards staff, people are often banned from their "Wfh policy" over the most ridiculous things. The main thing I took away from my time at Amicus is the passive aggression from the directors, 'treading on eggshells' is a phrase that comes to mind most days you're in the office. There have been countless examples of people being shouted at over the desk and it's both disrespectful and demoralising. They claim to offer flexibility to all employees but it's simply not true. There are constant work from home bans and holiday request restrictions. The atmosphere within the office was hostile. People are afraid to talk back as you're likely to be disciplined, as a result people are forced to accept being spoken to and treated poorly. The lack of progression is clear to see. Despite some employees being there for over 5 years, none have progressed past Principal level. For the most part, this is not a place to grow your career and be rewarded for your hard work.

Thank you for your review and advice. Honesty is a core value at Amicus, so I believe it’s helpful to be transparent here on our WFH and flexibility policies. Whilst we offer flexibility and WFH options for self-motivated, self-disciplined, and self-accountable consultants, if a consultant is behind target and requires additional support/training to improve their performance, we’d like to be as close to that person as possible to get them back on track. That generally requires them returning to the office more regularly. However, this is only ever a temporary measure to improve performance and has never been permanent. Since hiring our first employee 5 years ago, we have multiple employees who’ve been with us for 2/3/4/5 years, some of which have received 4-5 promotions in that time. We're big believers in creating a meritocratic environment where titles and promotions are based on merit & not just tenure. Its regretful that your short time with Amicus was not a successful one, however we wish you the best of luck in the future.
