Pros

The ability to work remotely is useful

Cons

Extremely top heavy "management" structure where a board of directors do very little. The left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing. Outside of that the broader management structure is useless. Many months of promises of improved conditions and systems lead to nothing at all. Complaints fall on deaf ears. Systems that are (apparently) worked on for months never seem to materialise either. When staff develop their own they're chastised as though the ominous "fixing system" will address the wider problems but as it never appears staff are forced to create their own. Their hands are tied. When issues do occur management are slow to react. Dithering is the firm's main achievement. Everything feels extremely unprofessional you can tell this in the way some of those in leadership speak to and about others. Every colleague I had (and myself) were almost always over capacity with work. If you were to voice you were struggling nothing would change or you'd be lied to and advised you would receive no more files for a duration (and then would receive some more) Obscenely high targets are set that no one can reasonably expect to achieve. Bonus opportunities are impossible because the firm asks for far too much in impossible conditions. The firm want to give the appearance of having it together but are extremely disorganised. The turnover has been markedly higher than other firms I've spent time in which I think is a real tell as to culture. The friends I did make there are desperately unhappy.

Good morning, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We have only recently signed up for an Employer page so I note this review was left two years ago. However, it still is deserving of a response and it is important that everyone that takes the time to share their thoughts should feel heard. A significant amount has changed in the firm since 2022 so at the risk of making my response unbelievably lengthy, what I can say is that there has been substantial investment and development in technology, support teams and creation of new processes to assist our teams in undertaking their work. This was almost entirely led by feedback from those on the ground undertaking the work themselves. We continue to develop resource and improve processes and have moved to a quarterly target system which better reflects the peaks and troughs of a typical conveyancing transaction. This has been gratefully received. I am confident if you were to review the firm now having experienced a number of huge changes, it'd certainly feel different. We continue to strive to create better systems and look forward to their ongoing development for the benefit of all of our colleagues. Kind regards, The Bishopsgate Law team

Pros

Remote working is welcomed provided your face fits.

Cons

Atrociously managed with a chronic lack of accountability and direction. Those bold enough to speak up are pushed out. That’s all there is to say.

Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are pleased to offer hybrid working to every colleague within the firm. This has been the case for a number of years. In some circumstances and based on the needs of the business, we do also have remote working opportunities that we gladly offer colleagues. This is not determined by if someone's "face fits" but instead whether their role is one that can be undertaken remotely to begin with. We are proud to offer as much flexibility as we feasibly can but there are scenarios where being in the office and engaging face-to-face is a core prerequisite of being able to perform that role competently. We are always clear about this in our hiring processes and ongoing reviews to ensure expectations are managed. I'm sorry to hear that you feel the firm is poorly managed. We are always open to feedback and are consistently working to develop and refine ways of ensuring communication is improved and all colleagues feel well connected., Without clear communication, poor management can be conflated with feeling out of the loop. We're certainly keen to improve that. It would be great if you'd reach out to hr@bishopsgatelaw.com citing this review so we can identify you and discuss the concerns you have. We will always operate an open door policy. Kind regards, The Bishopsgate Law team

Pros

Remote working but in this day and age that’s hardly unheard of.

Cons

I will try condense this as best as I am able. 1. The management structure of this firm is very bad. Those in charge do very little to help any of their teams. 2. Caseload is totally unmanageable and if you dare ask for help or respite you’ll be outright lied to. 3. Very poor hiring processes means people with no experience at all are forced to work with you and drag you down. This isn’t surprising given that the people that do the hiring aren’t even qualified lawyers! 4. Managing director and C E O command very little respect. Managing director is practically invisible and C E O just says what everyone wants to hear. Promises everything and delivers nothing of what he says. 5. The pay scale of people is appalling. Jumped up salespeople are paid more than juniors as mentioned. 6. There’s a real disconnect between management and they are constantly talking behind each others back. One director who actually spoke the truth was forced out by another and a third loves nothing more than to chat about it! 7. Support teams that create work! Compliance led by someone so incoherent it’s actually quite funny. Doesn’t have a clue as to the obligations. 8. It’s very cliquey and you need to make sure you fit in or you’re pushed out, basically. 9. People genuinely incapable of doing the job remain in employment! 10. Very inappropriate behaviour at times that isn’t challenged. Lots of examples. Not an acceptable environment if you’re religious, married or both! No one cares about this. 11. A completely and utterly useless HR department made up of people that are complained about most. Can’t be trusted to deal with issues so few people approach them overall. Turnover is absolutely remarkable!

Good afternoon, Thank you for taking the time to leave us this review, though we are of course disappointed and concerned at some of the things shared here. It is important to acknowledge that over the years, our firm has expanded at a rapid pace and we fully appreciate that with that occurring, the levels of communication between senior management and the business suffered as a result. This was never intentional and we are working hard to improve this. Sometimes it can be difficult to strike the balance and ensure systems and processes are being developed and remain fit for purpose whilst also providing milestone updates of that work as it happens. We do acknowledge at times people may have felt out of the loop. We are always accepting of genuine feedback and try to operate in a way that encourages openness and transparency. Many of things noted within this review do not read familiar to us, though. Some of the issues cited within this review have not been reported to our HR department or any of our senior managers. As a result, without any legitimate reports of the issues you mention, we are not able to investigate or verify these claims. Please do reach out to hr@bishopsgatelaw.com to discuss the things mentioned here assuming they are, of course, legitimate. Kind regards, The Bishopsgate Law team
