With reference to training and structure, see earlier comment.
With reference to dangling training contract – that’s simply not true. All those with LPC that had completed 12 months employment are either currently on a Training contract or commencing a Training Contract. In fact, all those currently a trainee had been awarded a training contract no more than 7 months of employment. Our website members’ page speaks for itself.
“This was promised to me in interview and never mentioned afterwards” – This is not a genuine comment as I would never promised a TC during an interview. Our policy on TC is clear. Fee Earner with LPC will be offered TC between 6 – 12 months into employment, in any event no more than a year following employment. My view is that a year is long enough time to consider if you are suited for the firm or vice versa.
I agree, the starting salary is awful, but this is taking into account the type of work we do, we are a legal aid firm after all. In addition, unless you possess previous paralegal experience, it is difficult to justify anything more than low starting base salary during your first 6 months probation period. Perhaps you should have gone to a commercial firm instead of legal aid firm
Those who performed well would receive a pay rise every 3 months during the first year of employment.
