Leaving is a Blessing

Pros

I can't think of any redeeming qualities. I tried. But I really can't.

Cons

Since previous reviews have talked much about the Directors, I shall not share any more details. Rather I'll talk about the culture, the work itself and how I left them in record time. Culture - It was a very clique-ish bunch during my time there and the culture reeks of toxicity. I can't find any redeeming qualities in the team apart from them being young and energetic. Coming from another boutique agency, the culture in Bless was a far-cry from what I experienced. There is no teamwork and if you're not in the clique (and the team is barely even 10 people strong), you're often made to feel left out in many conversations. This may have changed since the agency's turnover rate is so high. Work - There are many practices that are redundant and counterproductive. The weekly WIP meeting takes up more than half the day because more often than not, the discussions were not about the actual work in progress. The media monitoring practices were shoddy and highly inefficient which leaves very little time for more strategic work to be done if you want to leave before the sky turns dark. Imagine having to put in a paragraph for all the media coverage, which is perfectly fine if its a couple of articles but not when it is for every blog or social media post after an event...now you see where I am going with that. I tendered my resignation in less than 2 months with them because 2 weeks in, I developed this very deep sense of unhappiness towards my colleagues and the work that I am doing, not to mention my experience with one of the directors (no points for guessing who) wasn't exactly stellar but it was sure out of this world, in a bad way.

Feels More Like A Curse

Pros

Great colleagues, easy to get along with and able to work together closely. Location of office at the heart of Tanjong Pagar, and a nice office space. Working hours are good.

Cons

The job was NOTHING like what I was sold on. Director of the company, the female boss, is a nightmare to work with - if she ever comes to the office to begin with. She has a terrible sense of leadership, and attends events late, with zero clue about the client and the rundown, which she eventually leaves being dead drunk. Additionally, she is extremely rude and to her clients and her staff, no interest on proper constructive criticism but micro manages on the little things. She calls her staff STUPID, and uses degrading, unprofessional insults. There is no real growth here because they are too busy to teach you anything after the first few months.

Pros

Strange ways that god has brought us all together, you will meet one of the greatest people working there (excluding the bosses obviously). A place to start out your career in PR to learn the basics.

Cons

There is a serious issue with the management - namely the two bosses, the directors of this teeny tiny agency. The lady boss is always absent and late to meetings, hence no clue on what is going on with each accounts, throws a huge fit every single time she storms up into the office, going on a witch hunt. You can expect to be overworked and struggle to manage her personal issues on top of the many accounts that you will be handling. She often comes to work after lunch, but disappears some days. Multiple excuses when she doesn't appear at work, e.g. my dog peed on my bed, my light is not working, the tile came off. Of which will be your only solace at this hellhole, the office functions when she's not around, work gets done, and the mood is lighter. As mentioned, when she storms up into the office, she starts her witch hunt, nothing ever gets done, because everyone needs to update her on their work, which she would know if she comes into office on time and regularly, and pays attention during client meetings (Most of the time she drifts off and starts sexting on her phone). On top of all that, she is rude to clients, doesn't respect anyone that she can walk all over, this includes her own mother, the cleaning lady of the company. Don't expect to contribute your comments, she will shoot it down and try to make you feel small. On to the next one, the other director, though he tries to hold the company together but not doing a very good job either. You might ask why? Because he is dead afraid of the lady boss, she instills fear in him, so don't expect to learn much from this other director as well because he's doing her job along with his own so there is no way you can expect to learn anything at all. Next point, there is a constant lack of resources, no media relations whatsoever, the best names the lady boss can ever mention are micro-influencers. Just a few days before the event, you can expect to see her going mad at everyone, on the RSVPs and to revise the list, when it could have been settled had she paid attention in meetings, and listen to her colleagues. During events, she will try to convince the client to include names of her friends, and proceed to get drunk with them. All in all, this place builds tenacity, if you can survive her, you can pretty much survive anything.
