I worked at Bupa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people, company culture and vibe of the company is mostly positive.

    Cons

Below industry standard pay, holidays were always an issue working in sales, lack of chances to move out of a sales role.

    Advice to Management

Give retail sales people more importance, they are doing more and facing more challenges than most teams in a world moving towards online/contact centre operations.

I have been working at Bupa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Takes flexibility serious. Opportunities for good work to be done. Depending on your leader: care and support for your individual circumstance. You do get a discount on your personal health insurance depending which plan you are on.

    Cons

Bupa has been successful for many years. It is now 3 large businesses that have not been integrated. The industry is now challenged and the company is not keeping up, namely by it's strategy (it doesn't really have one), it's priorities (it has too many), it's structure (it's unclear with some duplication of activity and lack of clear decision making) and culture (nice on the face but a bit passive agressive).
Depending on your role, you may work very long hours (10+ per day) and not have any impact.
Salaries are ok- middle marker. Benefits are average.

    Advice to Management

Have a clear strategy and a prioritised plan for the year. Make tough decisions fast and stick to them. Foster a clearer org structure to help get things done. With a new CEO coming on board, this is the perfect time to make the tough calls.

I worked at Bupa part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Lovely and understanding residents

    Cons

Short staffed all the time and if the short -shift- staff does not come to work then that short shift is not going to be replace which causes over work for other staff. The staff who being asked to stay back due to short staffed then did not get pay correctly for their time.

The fingerprint clock in machine does not seem to work properly which causes wrong pay mostly on the weekends or public holidays. Hence, the fortnight payment is done incorrectly. Having said that, you do need to check your payslip carefully the staff did report underpayment quite often due to wrong number of hours paid, penalty rates not applied or other entitlements not paid, such as leave. Staff are asked to stay back to do their job overtime often did not receive their overtime pay.

Lack of respect and support from RN for care staff. Lack of trust and understanding for care staff from the management.

Staff are being told to do their online training at their own time and most are not being paid for doing this. In order to get paid, staff are reminded to discuss with the management before doing the online training. Legally, if staff are required to do the training program for work annually, they must be paid for that time.

    Advice to Management

Need to treat employees fairly and pay them correctly.

I have been working at Bupa part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Flexible working opportunities
Genuinely care about mental health and well being
    Fairly flat structure

    Cons

Pay well being market rate, resting heavily on laurels of being “loved by employees”
Rapid growth in Aus, but company not equiped to handle - technology sucks
    Too many non-integrated businesses
A lot of uninspired, non-strategic leaders
    Constant talk of no money

    Advice to Management

Invest more in quality leaders, rather than a whole lot of overpaid middle managers

I worked at Bupa full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee benefits 40 to 50% off health insurance.

    Cons

Even though it is a sales and service role. There is hardly any service given to customers. Bupa focuses on more upgrades, sales and revenue.

Very target based role where the manager puts a lot of pressure on you to make more sales.
