Stay clear for health and happiness

Pros

It's an entrepreneurial environment with no glass ceiling on your achievement, so there is no limit to what you can achieve. No guarantee you'll be compensated for it though. There are some exciting projects and trips available. Great place if you're a self-confessed workaholic.

Cons

It's a harsh environment, with long hours and lawful breaks are frowned upon. (Someone on trial lost their chance for taking an hour for lunch). Pressure to take work home with you, stay late, work while you fly - basically constantly. You're expected to bring in new business and the higher up you go, the more your job is at risk if you don't bring money in. The owner is a scary perfectionist, God help you if you can't read her mind and please her!!! Huge amount of cake, so don'y go there if you want to be healthy. I never had time to do anything after work and it's out in the sticks. Many employees got sick, including myself. So if you care about your life, health and happiness outside of work, then you're better off declining a job offer.

Worst company ever. Nasty.

Pros

Nice bunch of young people also suffer there and we all suffered together. It taught me what I never want to experience again.

Cons

This is modern day slavery. Ridiculously long hours and little thanks from the owners. It is owned by an eccentric husband and wife. The wife is a control freak and the husband is a spare-part who adds nothing, other than minding the petty cash. We were forced to work on several conflict of interest projects with competing companies, but I guess when you are small you need all the projects that you can get and you don't care about confidentiality as much. It felt odd to me though and I'd urge clients to check contracts to protect yourselves. It is a harsh atmosphere to work in. There is no support. I used to come across someone having a cry in the Ladies about once a fortnight. The culture is broken. I felt compelled to write this as the other reviews did not reflect my experience of this dreadful company.

The comments made above are false and the company takes them very seriously especially as they refer to its clients. Butterfly has never forced or asked anyone to work on any projects that would undermine its contractual obligations. We take our obligations with our clients extremely seriously and we certainly expect everyone working or who has worked at Butterfly to respect fully their contractual obligation. Anyone who would have any concerns, please feel free to contact me directly. Regarding the other comments, we are saddened by the words this anonymous consultant has chosen to use and we truly believe that we afford every Butterfly several avenues to voice any concerns or challenges they may have. We don't believe that it reflects the experience Butterflies have had in the last 7 years. Stephane Le Moullec, Managing Director stephane@butterflylondon.com

Pros

Surprisingly good client list, but...

Cons

The lady who founded it is crazy, she's very insecure. Unless you like being - a) constantly undermined; b) constantly overruled and treated like a child; c) treated like crap by the husband and wife team that run it - do not work here!

We have only recently been made aware of the above post. We value any views our employees, former employees, clients and partners express about Butterfly and on this occasion, we are sorry to hear that the poster did not have the experience of working at Butterfly that others had and continue to have. There is no doubt that we learn much more from challenges than successes however we do not believe the review accurately reflects our company and so we are taking this opportunity to respond openly to the concerns raised rather than do so anonymously as the original poster did. As at the date of the above review, October 2015, Butterfly had only ever hired 4 Senior Directors since the company was created in 2009. Two of these directors are still employed and working at Butterfly as a Director (Bianca Meek) or as a trusted freelance Consulting Director (Deirdre Findlay). Another director (Graham White) is now working client side, and retains not only an excellent relationship with Butterfly and its founding directors, Bianca Cawthorne and Stephane Le Moullec, but is also advising Butterfly on business matters. The fourth director is no longer working at Butterfly having departed in Autumn 2015. These are the facts that we believe are important to share with anyone interested in Butterfly. Butterfly continues to grow from strength to strength; counts a team of 30 people (15 nationalities) including a talented, driven and successful management team made of 4 Directors, and now has a presence in New York. Please feel free to contact any of the Directors named above to ensure you get to know Butterfly for yourself. Stephane Le Moullec Managing Director Stephane@butterflylondon.com
