Pros

Lots of the people are nice and friendly The location in Victoria is quite convenient for most commuters and has lots of shops etc.

Cons

Where to begin... Moral is generally low and most people are thinking about the next step in their career as they know this business will struggle to stay around for years to come. The business is about as FinTech as an abacus! The CEO thinks he is a celebrity and refers to the business as a innovative start-up, the business is 14 years old and lacks the basics that a new start-up would have in place by month 3. Poor decision making driven by ego has lead to a decline in growth... It's clear that some people have only got to their senior positions based on length of service, not ability or merit. The most obvious weakness is the leadership of Operations (as other reviews have mentioned) - there is more of a focus on unwashed cups in the kitchen sink than the huge number of complaints and missed phone calls. Operations like to laugh...loudly - like a hyena. The business makes frequent bizarre decisions and planning is non-existent. If you want a good laugh guess which review on here is clearly written by the CEO himself... Leaving this business was the best decision I ever made!

Caxton Payments Response

Hi. Thank you for your review. Your feedback is important to us and I appreciate your comments about how friendly people are here but I am sad to see your comments about the CEO and the senior management team. I am saddened also by the fact that you felt that you could not raise your concerns or feelings whilst you were working in the business, either with your manager or as part of an exit interview. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this feedback further in full confidence. If this is of interest please contact me in the usual way. I am happy to reassure you that 2016 has seen good growth across all areas and that the company is in robust financial health. I hope your current role is proving happier and more successful and wish you all the best throughout the rest of 2016. Director of People

Zero Career and Vengeful Management

Pros

Nice friendly staff. Relaxed environment on the whole (until the CEO loses his temper and has a temper tantrum in the middle of the office).

Cons

Senior Management never provide pay rises and if they do, its in increments of £2-3K, not 5-10K. Senior Management (mainly CEO) are only in it for themselves, they don't care about employee well being, although they claim otherwise. I witnessed one employee forced to work a 3 month notice period in a segregated room, whenever they entered the main office, the sales employees were encouraged to boo and hiss as this person traversed the office to use the bathrooms. Disgusting behaviour from a vengeful and spiteful management team. They do not like promoting or pay-rising and when they do, they clearly feel they own the employee's who aren't allowed to move on for their own career needs. The employee who I reference earlier was one of the longest standing and most well respected in the entire company - and they treated this person with disdain as soon as they resigned. Complete lack of career progression and unbelievably high turnover of staff with uncompetitive pay structures. I would recommend staying far away from this place if you're serious about a finance career or if you would like to advance in a career. When I left the company, the CEO verbally threatened to provide poor referencing for future jobs. Steer clear.

Pros

As Caxton like to shout about, you can tell people you work in the Gherkin

Cons

Culture that it's acceptable to rip customers off to hit targets, employees are treated and spoken to like school children (and publicly shamed anytime a minor mistake is made). There's no trust from the leadership and no empowerment, even for Senior Managers, and as a result no-one wants to work there (hence the extremely high staff turnover and high number of people heading for the exits). Except for a few good people, it's a pretty miserable place to work. If you dream of going back to the 1980's then you may like it as there's not a laptop / mobile device in sight (ironic for a "FinTech") and flexible working is a taboo subject. And if you merely suggest ways to improve the culture, you'll be straight into the bad books. Little in the way of IT / product development ever takes place. Please don't make the same mistake I did - stay away!
