exploitation of teachers (Physical exploitation - Emotional exploitation )
Pros
The philosophy ("childroots way') is wonderful and one that I actually learned a lot from. I liked the continuity of care aspect and the Green/Sustainable ideals. That's about it.
Cons
When I worked at CR, I along with my co workers, were forced to clean cloth diapers from up to 10 children without any sanitation/safety protection (other than gloves) while leaning over a toilet and spraying/scrubbing them clean. These were diapers that had sat in a bin all day with feces and urine, it was very unpleasant/unsanitary... Later they finally decided to get a diaper service.. This business is run by someone who I like to believe at one point had a true passion for Early Childhood Education, but soon the money/profit of owning such a lucrative business got to their head making them lose touch with what this business is about the children and employees well being.. This in turn has/had adverse effects on the teachers who DO have a passion for ECE and get exploited and taken advantage of because of that. There was very little room for growth/advancement at this business, it was hard to even get an annual raise. The owner found it to be more important to open more schools than to pay the current teachers a livable wage. Whenever there was an issue brought up to management it was usually turned into a gas lighting situation were whoever brought up the issue was either told they were over reacting, wrong or fired for 'blowing the whistle'. This childcare center/school makes ALOT of money, it is a very lucrative business and for them to offer the lowest terr of health coverage / sick days off / no vacation time (other than regular holidays)... Just seems selfish on the owners part. The owner would not be living the lifestyle she has if it wasnt for the exploitation of the teachers/caregivers of the centers she owns. If it wasn't for the teachers/caregivers there would no center(s) and no profit..
