I have been working at Clayton Utz part-time

      Pros

      - Excellent flexibility and care provided by legal support staff - Listening and empathetic managers who have your back - Wide experience, with independence and trust placed in those who work here. - Fantastic quality of peers, always respectful and kind - excellent culture. - Exceptional access to education; managers always willing to allow you to develop and further your legal skills with access to CLEs

      Cons

      - Long hours and sometimes inadequate alternative coverage for those times due to specialization and concentration of technical and legal skill in respect to a given matter. - The usual course of career progression, the FTS Analyst role, seems to be designed to avoid paying necessary overtime to the full-time staff. It is my understanding that billable hours exceed the scheduled hours (a 7.5 hour billables target cannot...

      Advice to Management

See above - little appetite to progress within the firm as you sacrifice work-life balance without what I would consider fair remuneration. Continue to offer CLEs to paralegals - we greatly appreciate it

I have been working at Clayton Utz full-time for more than 4 years

        Pros

Competitive pay - grads fresh out of uni start on around $70k. There are great opportunities for development as a junior lawyer, with internal CLEs fortnightly on average across all teams. All Partners that I have worked for (about 10 in total) are keen to see the juniors succeed, they have a vested interest in getting the most out of you as a junior and although sometimes that means working you to the bone, the...

        Cons

As a graduate, you can sometimes get a bit lost in the process and feel like you are more a part of a strategy game than a career. The firm is managing up to 70 grads across the country each year so dealing with HR can sometimes be repeating who you are and what you want out of your career a number of times, as well as constantly asking for information about how to move in the direction you want to go. That said,...

        Advice to Management

Overall, keep up the good work. But sometimes in such a large company, transparency in upper management processes can go a long way to achieving positive staff morale on the ground.

        Pros

        Looks good on your resume

        Cons

Absolutely no respect for employees. Work you ridiculously long hours. Never went home before 9pm, and most nights worked until 1am even until 4am on many occasions. All to make the partners richer. I would never recommend this firm to anyone.
