Pros

Independence , no micro-managing or hospital/ clinical facility politics .

Cons

Case load runs to high to be an effective CM and some days you feel like your only putting out fires. required billable hours per month needs restructuring to be more manageable.

Pros

I get a paycheck. Co-workers are great. Tuition reimbursement okay. Working in the field allows for greater distance from management.

Cons

Work-load unrealistic. Nurses not treated like professionals. Some regional managers are vocational specialist supervising nurses and think they can give clinical input into management of files (isn't that out of their scope of practice?). Management does not want to hear about problems (and there are too many to count) or solutions that impact the nurses job. They promise the world to new customers that nurses cannot possibly fulfill while juggling all the other work they are expected to do. Most nurses work 50-60 hours per week. Bonus is based on a Quality Review of reports on everything but clinical management of the file, which is why they hired a nurse in the first place. You technically do not get a paid vacation, as you have to still do the work before you leave or when you return. Management doesn't care that moral is low, even though they are told about it frequently. They always say they are working on improving it, but three years later not one thing has changed - except it is worse.

Pros

Good benefits, health care premiums are low. Does allegedly offer $5K/yr. tuition reimbursement.

Cons

Extreme salary disparities between people doing the same job. Concentra legacy nurses were promised by senior mgmt to be brought up to par with newly-hired Coventry nurses doing the same job, in 2007. Never happened. We are talking $7K - $15K difference here. There are few advancement opportunities unless you go back to school. So far, mgmt has not been flexible with student/worker schedules. There are no concrete guarantees from mgmt if you get a higher degree, your salary will go up to match that of the new hires.
