Pros

Free Dunkin Donuts Friday mornings (if there is any left when you arrive at 9am). Decent beer in the fridge. Nice outings once in awhile.

Cons

No decent work. They began hemorrhaging clients when new leadership came in a few years ago. The culture suffered significantly and they began firing one person a month. Many others left on their own. Pet projects go to the pets. Do you interrupt people in a meeting and tell them they’re wrong? You’re #1 on the it list. This mentality scares off some of the best talent. Their review process is such that they beat you down so you question your worth. Unless you’re a pet, then you get the world. The group is incredibly cliquey. They will make up their minds about you and you somehow have a bizarre reputation for no reason. You will be left off of important meetings, emails, and given grunt work. Direction and expectations are not clear. They allow associate managers bully their talent and turn a blind eye. Sexism is rampant and the boys won’t even allow some people to help concept for new ideas or pitches. Creatives, especially leads, are incredibly difficult to approach or communicate with. Some are lazy, some don’t want to lead or have time or care enough to even talk to you, some go in and change your work and don’t tell you. No communication, too busy, too cool. No process whatsoever. Management and leadership as a whole is lacking, conniving, elitist. I’ve seen them build false cases against people just to get them to quit or have a “reason” to fire them. No value in their employees. HR is a joke.

Pros

Big brands on the roster slide. Flexible working. Generally kind and smart people.

Cons

Creative leadership has zero vision. UX leadership has zero vision. We are now known as a banner shop. We are becoming less technology focused. CCO exhibits extreme favoritism toward their own over titled inner circle. The creative department is predominately one color. The New York office and culture have deteriorated. We just had a large layoff that was labeled restructuring. Honesty and equality have become false values.

Pros

Just like any job, your co-workers are the best part. Smart, kind people who put their best foot forward.

Cons

You'll be told upfront how much management cares for you and your well-being. They gain your trust, ask for honest non-anonymous feedback, tell you they understand how hard things are, how they have your back. It's just talk. They do not care about you if it's affecting their bottom line and client relations. The reality will be gas lighting and cold-shoulders. Of course, it's a business. Put your time in, learn what you can, but have an out. People burnt out, stressed out, breaking down? Here's a seminar on better time management. Because it's not the work load and impossible deadlines, it's you and your bad time management skills. They'll report record profits time after time, but don't expect a raise just more overtime. Lots of turn-over in the tech department for good reason. Satisfy your curiosity if you have to but it's not a place for the long term.

Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. As a tenured CMer, I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunities to learn and grow in such a welcoming and inspiring environment. Having said that, the last 18 months have challenged us all, and while we worked hard as a leadership team on prioritizing communication and transparency, and worked tirelessly to put the well-being of our employees first, it sounds like this wasn't sufficient for what you were needing from an employer during these difficult times. We are constantly striving to be better- at listening, at celebrating, and at growing. If you have any other feedback you'd like to share, I'm happy to talk further. Thank you, Sara Anhorn, Chief Talent Officer saraa@criticalmass.com
