Pros

One of two coffee machines work.

Cons

The fish rots from the head. This company is a mess, fuelled by overworked and underpaid artists and producers under the command of of a man who’s approval of work has no consideration for timelines and budgets. Management are the ones who only appear when there is bad news, but when the entire team sheds blood sweat and tears we don’t hear a peep from them. Communication is a massive problem both internally and externally. There’s a strong blame culture when things start to go wrong, for example, project timelines are often undercooked - the key operational management is often too busy to discuss this with the client (matched with a greedy hunger for work) so dozens of projects are suddenly in the door and instantly post supervisors become unhappy due to the fact that the work is simply not feasible. The finger is pointed at the producers and artists, for these delays and not back and themselves. We are just making pretend here people. Stay away from Cutting Edge if it’s the last thing you do.

Pros

Good pay, good artists, nice coworkers. The work you get to do is pretty cool and you rub shoulders with a lot of talented people. You have the opportunity to work in a lot of different fields and learn a lot.

Cons

Awful management. When they fail to get enough work into the studio they'll start firing innocent people left and right in order to save costs and save face. If you get a job here don't stop looking for work elsewhere. Your job is not safe in the slightest. Many of the managers and producers don't know what they're doing. They've often bluffed their way in the door and blame the artists and/or the market for everything they screw up. They seem incapable of keeping up with the ongoing changes in media. My guess is their quotes to the clients are too high and the delivery time is too long, since messages have to go back and forth across way too many producers and managers. They seem good from the outside, but it's a mess in there.

Pros

Pay was above average, however I was on casual contract for almost 2 years, which meant I could be let go anytime. Location is pretty good in West End Brisbane, close to the River and Transport. Lots of new apartments been built around the area so not hard to find a place to stay. You get to learn and become a generalist, because the team is so small. Workstations were decent.

Cons

Producers don't listen and act on concerns, instead they try to change your mind and say the problem is with you and there really aren't any problems. Too many production staff and leads with poor technical knowledge. Not enough people to actually work on the shots. at one point it was around 2 workers to one production staff. When things don't work out, the finger pointing starts instead of working together to find a solution. Problems get swiped under the carpet because no one wants to speak up to production, when delivery date comes, workers have to do crazy over time. Even for such a small shop, 12 - 15 hour days were not uncommon. Unresponsive to showreel requests after you leave, also waiting for some tax documents from them 3 months after leaving. The projects are mostly uninspiring and very low budget, which means you won't get any good shots for your showreel. Dealing with producers on contract matters is a terrible experience, worst I've experienced in any workplace. They will literally give you an offer on the last day of your contract and expect you to sign it.
