Pros

Great people in the job at the paralegal level Flexibility in terms of starting/finishing times and use of gliding time Lots of exposure to work that you would not get the chance to do in other firms

Cons

There is no progression. They try their best to keep you at a lower level so they don’t have to pay you more. Definitely a ‘favourites’ game. If you are liked by the partner/supervisor then you will get more opportunities. If you an aren’t, they will make your life horrible. The caseload is unmanageable and feels like you are being set up to fail. You have so much work mistakes happen and you get all the blame for any mistakes. You can work in some very high value/important matters but you get paid very little, the pay does not reflect to work load

Pros

The odd appreciation in the form of food or work social event.

Cons

A very, very difficult company to work for. Your work is primarily judged on how much time you put on the chargeable clock regardless of all the other non chargeable client facing and administration work you do. Line managing Partners are micro managed to micro manage fee earning staff. No thought is really given to whether the workload is manageable and a culture of fear of not hitting the targets has developed. Wellbeing is said to be considered in the form of fancy intranet forums or dial in hubs...but the reality is ...you don't have time to engage with this as you are too busy trying hit unrealistic/Unhealthy expectations.

Pros

Ability to work from home Staff at paralegal and supervisor level are great

Cons

Targets set are unrealistic and put way too much stress on an individual Pay is terrible and criteria for bonuses are ridiculous They promote flexible working and work/life balance but expect you to work way past your contracted hours Problems you flag are swept under the rug Very poor staff retention, which puts added pressure on remaining staff - people leave quicker than they can be replaced Management treat lower level employees like they’re dispensable Very poor organisation Management admit when they’ve done wrong but then don’t do anything to rectify it 3 month notice period makes it almost impossible to get another job until you’ve handed in your notice - I’ve spoken to multiple recruiters who’ve all said ‘they’ve never heard of anything like it’ Ridiculously high case load
