Pros

The work content is pretty easy. It is all administrative.

Cons

The smallest mistake will get you shoved out of the door. Leadership here refuses to invest in employees. You will be underpaid, under-appreciated, and over-worked. The last few months they have fired two people and forced another two to resign. This not only impacts the people who left, but means the people still at the Foundation continue to have to do multiple people's jobs because leadership can't figure out how to not create a super toxic work environment.

Pros

Really not any - it's been very negative and I learned a lot about what not to do

Cons

I worked here and it was one of the most negative career experiences I've ever had, if not the worst. The office is very small, only a few staff members and most are upper management who discourage a work/life balance. Get ready for everything about you to be looked at under a microscope and graded harshly. Micromanagement is alive and well here - just hope you don't make any mistakes bigger than this because even things as small as that are treated punitively. Oh, and don't ask any questions unless you want to be get iced out and treated like you're an idiot. Trust me, you will feel like you're walking on eggshells at all times. The mood of the office is VERY tense. It does not feel like a safe space to speak out about issues because of the politics and favorites. Not a positive place to be whatsoever. Even if it looks like they're being nice, watch out. Playing politics and playing favoritesis VERY real here. It's very hierarchical. Expectations are extremely high and almost impossible unless you stay there until 10pm at the office which is something that definitely happens! Get ready to be required to dedicate your whole life to this organization. Say goodbye to nights - you're lucky if you get to leave at a reasonable time and forget about work. The toxicity of this environment will seep into your home life and will affect your ability to recharge and refuel. Instead of having a supportive environment and team-based atmosphere, communication is strongly discouraged using passive aggressive speech. I've seen people snap at others at the slightest of things like needing clarification about a process even when the higher ups want the process done correctly. The staff does not practice what they preach in terms of rules for the office - basic rules like being respectful of others etc. Kind consideration, realism about expectations, offering a work/life balance? These aren't offered in my experience. Best find yourself another organization for which to work. Before looking for a job, ask the employer how they handle mistakes (whether with guidance and patience or if mistakes are just not allowed - I can tell you that here, they treat honest mistakes punitively). Find yourself a place that treats employees with respect instead of passive aggressively which is in my experience how people especially people higher in the hierarchy talk.

“Toxic” Is the Continuing Theme

Pros

Other than the CEO, the staff was a joy to work with. Smart, kind, committed people who deeply cared about civil legal aid. It was also great working with the community of civil legal aid providers.

Cons

The Executive Director lacks empathy and emotional intelligence. She is devoid of compassion and has created an environment in which great people become anxious and overworked. The staff keeps turning over, and the Board is too weak to acknowledge the problems.
