Pros

None of the pros outweigh the cons.

Cons

I have never worked for a more unprofessional organization in my entire career. Sexism, threats, and manipulation run rampant and drive the company's TOXIC corporate culture. The owner of the company does not care about employees or company culture at all. He is completely removed rom all account work and allows a truly incompetent and unqualified VP to make all business decisions. The VP is in way over his head, and is incapable of providing direct support - whether on account management, strategy, or HR issues - but will throw any of his subordinates under the bus when things go wrong. Employees are overworked and underpaid. Management is greedy and it comes at the expense of employees mental health. They do not staff teams properly, and tell you that working 60-hour work weeks is "expected." While this can be a part of any communications work, it should not be the norm. and it certainly should not be because leadership is lining their pockets while taking advantage of hardworking mid and junior level employees. DCG does not care at all about the mental health of their employees and sees no problem with driving them into the ground instead of hiring an adequate amount of employees to support an account. The company boasts about - and prides itself on - the "perk" of letting employees work remotely, but what they don't tell you is that you are expected to always be available. Early mornings, late nights, vacations, weddings, maternity leave, and even funerals, are not off limits if they are trying to reach you. HR is a joke and exists solely to protect the company's leadership. They regularly ignore complaints about unprofessional behavior, threats, manipulation and even sexual harassment. Recently, there have been sexual harassment complaints about two men in the organization that have not been seriously investigated and both men continue to work there. Career opportunities are limited and DCG regularly lies to employees about raises and bonuses and makes false promises.

Thanks so much for this feedback. I'm shocked to hear that you were willing to endure so much over 5-7 years. It's a shame that you never brought your well-articulated thoughts above to our attention except through this post one month after you were terminated for poor performance.

Pros

You can work from home (for the most part) Benefits were fine Account work was you could be proud of; meaningful work

Cons

CEO is completely out of touch with company. Besides living in another state and visiting "the office" sporadically, he barely knows employees names and has no clue what is going on day-to-day. Good luck if you have to work with him. Profit over people here, which is fine from a CEO, but when he touts "the company is a family," it's hypocritical. "Senior" leadership is laughable - HR does not respond to questions, concerns and most upsetting, any serious offenses. Additionally, senior leadership and HR was always looking to gossip and asking questions about other staffers, which is beyond uncomfortable. The senior leadership team also makes up stories from one day to the next. For instance, they told staff there did not have a "Senior Account Director" position, but then promoted someone to that position a week or two later. If you are promised a bonus or raise or title promotion, good luck actually getting your money. Frequently, the promise is "wait until your six month review," and then it's "wait until your year review." Sometimes you get the title promotion, but very often that comes without money. If you bring this up with any senior leader or your supervisor, they talk in circles and you never get a straight answer. Working from home is nice, until you realize you are supposed to be responsive 24/7. Vacation, bereavement, maternity leave, you better be checking your email. Long-term stability is non-existent. Nobody knows the 3 or 5 year plan. And don't bother asking, you won't get a straight answer.

Pros

DCG has hired some amazing communications professionals, so during their short tenures at the company you will meet some long lasting professional connections and friends who can help you a lot in the DMV area. Though you won’t get paid anywhere near a sufficient level, you will likely get immediate client experience that can help you out in the consulting or communications world after you leave.

Cons

Company culture is extremely toxic and difficult to deal with. There are clear favorites by upper management, and senior employees and VPs get away with bullying and intimidation tactics. My mental health suffered greatly being at DCG. The HR department does not handle complaints in a professional and confidential manner, and cannot be trusted. So there is no one within upper management to turn to if you find yourself targeted by a manager/senior staffer and being treated unfairly. Employees are expected to work overtime and far beyond their pay grade for nothing in return. Their contracts are extremely lucrative, but almost all money goes to the CEO’s private plane and house in Dubai. They cut back on all real estate costs so beyond insurance there are very few fixed costs, and to entice employees they gave started doing small giveaway “challenges” in lieu of actually increasing salary to substantial levels. Many people I know are miserable here and looking to get out, and the future of several large contracts are looking very iffy due to the high staff turnover and client dissatisfaction. Listen to the bad reviews on here... No one is incentivizing the bad reviews, and that can't be said about all the 5 star decoys.

We're caught off guard by your review but understand that your experience was your own perception and reality. We make every effort to ensure lines of communication at all levels are open to our 100+ employees and provide ample opportunities for feedback and discussions. We're surprised to receive your feedback here and never once in a 1:1 meeting or any other setting. DCG takes great pride in continuously rewarding employees who make meaningful contributions and positively impact our clients. This is not favoritism. Employees with an outstanding attitude and proactive approach to their work will always be recognized. 87% of our staff has been at DCG for 2+ years and it’s been a pleasure to help them take full advantage of all we have to offer. Like any consulting firm, our workloads vary throughout the year based on client needs. The executive team meets weekly, garnering input from our Directors to gauge staff workloads and ensure even distribution among teammates. Upon closing our DC office during the pandemic and the decision to remain nearly 100% virtual, we smartly reinvested this cost-saving right back into our staff. In the last year, we’ve invested in 3 additional overhead staff (Marketing, HR, and Traffic) to provide greater support to DCG's evolving needs; we made a huge investment in a new IT vendor and equipment to ensure appropriate tech support 24x7; and we’ve rolled out an enhanced and well-rounded benefits package. Some perks we’re thrilled to offer are a $300 wellness benefit, $1600 educational stipend, up to 14 weeks of paid family leave; up to 10 days paid bereavement; up to 35 PTO days, 11 holidays, $1000 family expansion fund, and so much more. The future of our contracts is anything but “iffy”. We had an incredibly successful proposal season – winning every contract recompete and renewal, and several new meaningful contract awards. We also received all “exceptional” reviews from our clients through the government’s CPARS rating system. DCG’s turnover is well below industry average, and the small handful of folks who departed this year all went to one firm who relentlessly attempts to poach all of us every day. Our goal is for employees to feel rewarded and empowered in their work, have a sense of connection in a virtual environment, and have fun along the way! If there comes a point where you are dissatisfied and do not feel it’s worth your time to investigate how to improve your situation or seek an alternative role internally, then it is likely time to move on. We wish you the best and hope you’ve found what you’re looking for in the next stop in your professional journey.
