Two years later and the nightmares continue.

Pros

If you enjoy shame, loud yelling, and daily fear, all while being forced to smile and pretend everything is wonderful, this might be the place for you to work. If not, then I would reconsider.

Cons

The nightmares I have about my time at Datron always begin the same. In fact, I had one last night and it motivated me to share my experience today. The nightmare begins at a leadership meeting. I walk in and Art Barter is standing at the front of the room. As I enter, everyone turns to stare. I take my seat and Art begins to rip into me in the same room where I was forced to learn about Servant Leadership. He cracks jokes at my expense and everyone laughs. I look down, and I am chained to the black leather chair in which I sit. I try to speak, but I have no voice. As I try to escape, I wake up in a sweat. The dream is always the same and it won't go away. I can verify the truth of the reviewers who have been harmed by the owner in this way. I wish I would have had the strength to record the sessions in which I was berated and humiliated in front of my colleagues and peers and take them to a lawyer, but I was brainwashed and had a mortgage to pay. Although there were no real chains, the nightmare was real for years. I really was berated publicly. I can see by the automated form responses from the company that Art still doesn't get it. If he did, many of us would have received personal apologies long ago. As it stands, he continues to do deny and ignore the things he has done to destroy the lives of over a hundred people he has broken down over the years. People have lost their homes, their careers, and their self esteem; myself included. It's not worth it.

Servant Leaders Leaving

Pros

Core group of managers and employees are great people to know and work with. There is a promoted and trained culture and leadership philosophy called Servant Leadership. Many great companies practice this. Really it is just good common sense leadership; out your people first.

Cons

The big issue is that the CEO is not a Servant Leader. He is the epitome of "do what I say, not what I do," and does not put his people first. This is especially true of how he treats his management team. Sadly I am sure he does not actually see this himself. And this is why the greatest servant leaders at Datron have resigned or been pushed out over the past two years, since the business Owner put himself back in the top seat. When the CEO feels threatened that people see someone other than he as whom they want to follow, he takes action to remove those people. More key people, including senior leaders, have said enough is enough and have resigned in recent months. These are the people who demonstrate true leadership, and hung on far too long trying to change things for the better.

Pros

I was paid plenty of money.

Cons

After being a part of this "cult"ure and surviving it, I am still scarred from the fear, hypocrisy, and verbal mistreatment. If you are not willing to act like an evangelical Christian, you will not fit in unless you learn to lie pretend you are. Or, unless you are related to the owners, then you can do anything you want. It's true. I am not angry trying to defame anyone, I am being 100% honest. I was yelled at so loudly at times, people could hear it many offices away. I cannot tell you how many days I hid in the closet or bathroom and cried. I was expected to do things that no one should have been expected to do and it was very uncomfortable and unprofessional. To those who say this is not a religion or a cult, how about the bibles paid for with company money stacked in the storage room? How would a Muslim or Pagan or Jew feel knowing that? Every time I saw those bibles, they just seemed to out of place. Very unprofessional and, well, just strange. All of the family works there and you really must be extra careful with them and nice to them, regardless of their lack of qualifications to do their jobs. This is a scary place to work folks; it feels real warm and fuzzy when the money is coming in like crazy (which it was for many years), but now that Datron's products are becoming obsolete and the owner can't make it into the office, ever, and there is no more kool aid, it's even scarier. I am so, so glad I got out. It's hard when you have a family, but I am so glad I decided to leave Datron. Every single day I remember the horrible experience I had there for so many years. Now I am healing and hope to be able to trust an employer again. After the lies and the yelling, though, I don't think I will ever trust another employer again. No, I won't ever be the same again.
