Competitive Salary & Benefits – Duke Energy offers solid compensation, including health insurance, retirement plans (401k with a company match), and other perks like tuition reimbursement. Job Stability – As a major utility company, Duke Energy provides a stable work environment with long-term employment opportunities. Work-Life Balance – Many employees report a good balance between work and personal life, with flexible schedules in some roles. Career Growth & Development – Offers training programs, leadership development, and career progression opportunities.

Cons

Slow Career Progression – Some employees find it challenging to move up the ranks, as promotions can be slow. Bureaucracy & Red Tape – As a large corporation, decision-making can be slow due to multiple layers of approval. Workload & Stress (Depends on Role) – Some roles, particularly in field operations and customer service, can have high workloads and stress.

Pros

Benefits were awesome, pay was decent for the area. Appreciated how even senior management up to SVPs were close with individual contributors

Cons

Money seemed to be tight and staffing was an issue. Technical training was almost non-existent

Pros

-Strong “safety first” culture -Opportunities for career growth if you are proactive -Communication has been improving -Great coworkers and supportive peers

Cons

-Constant changes in management and high employee turnover -Poor training; you must rely on self-learning -STI (Short-Term Incentive) bonus is unreliable and consistently reduced due to safety incidents -Storm duty is mandatory with no exceptions for vacations or medical issues, requiring 16-hour days until restoration is complete -Salaried employees are treated like hourly employees, but receive no overtime pay; only straight time after exceeding 45 hours in a week -Hybrid roles require in-office presence 3 days per week with no fully remote options -Lack of flexibility in accommodating personal commitments during storm events

Pros

There's great opportunities for learning. The way that Duke does it is unmatched. They are very good at ensuring their policies are met and there is great opportunity to learn.

Cons

They provide very limited training and will give you opportunities without training and blame you if they fail. They have a VERY SPECIFIC way they do things and the you deter from that in the slightest you will become a social pariah. This is further exacerbated by the gossip and hierarchical blame culture that is fueled by pressure on middle management. In my short time there there was so much stress on the middle managers/ subordinates that they lashed out emotionally at those underneath them and there were two medical events related to that.

Pros

Opportunity for advancement has been nice. Most of the teams I have worked on and with have been super.

Cons

Training leaves a little to be desired, sort of a sink or swim mentality, but thankfully with understanding superiors and peers.
