Cons

Toxic environment, heavy politics, competitive to an unhealthy degree, extreme hours, few resources, inflexible schedules ---- No team is perfect, but the fact that Apex Leaders turns over nearly half their staff every two years is an indication of a deeply troubling workplace environment. One where hard work, dedication, and excellent results are not rewarded and underhanded leadership and office politics rule the teams' every decision. They work diligently to hide this with engineered reviews and awards, but if you speak to formers like I have recently, their experience was not positive. In my time there I earned near-perfect quarterly and annual reviews, was called out repeatedly as an exemplary "A-player" who lived the core values. Yet when I asked for professional development or any meaningful growth plan that was explicitly promised in my offer letter and at reviews, I got only backlash and retaliation. The leadership was very punishing at Apex Leaders, specifically the CEO. What he liked to refer to as 'ruthless execution' is a thinly veiled excuse for emotional bullying and manipulation. Within all layers of the company, I listened to colleagues regularly describe being at their wits end and constantly feeling like having to walk on egg shells. I felt the same. The pressure under his leadership is unbearable and if he doesn't like you or identify with you, good luck getting anywhere in that company based on merit. Unfortunately, these fear tactics breed a team largely unwilling to expose themselves by voicing new ideas, raising opposing viewpoints, or challenging the organization to improve in meaningful ways beyond simply increasing the bottom line. I did learn valuable skills in my time at the company, but the most valuable lesson I learned is there are much better places to work than Apex Leaders. Don't waste your energy.

Apex Leaders Response

As a VP who has been with Apex Leaders for 5+ years, I was surprised to see this post. As a member of the leadership team, I appreciate the opportunity to be part of a high growth company that values and rewards collaboration and a strong work ethic. As other posts have stated, we are a fast paced, high performing company that provides challenging opportunities with the freedom to be innovative; all of which are qualities of a team I want to be a part of. It's a great fit for me and I'm excited about where we are headed as a company.

Pros

Apex is a great place to work with benefits that are hard to beat (almost 5 weeks of PTO, employer-paid health insurance, and a 6-week paid sabbatical after 5 years of service)! Leadership has been flexible and understanding, while offering great mentorship and support. The culture is fast-paced and rewarding, with constant opportunities to give your input, make changes, and learn new skills. Employees are encouraged to lean into their individual strengths and take ownership of projects and initiatives that they care about. The people here like to work hard. There is a high standard for excellence and a sense that everyone wants to succeed and put their best foot forward. At the same time, the company culture prioritizes having fun, getting to know your colleagues, and acknowledging what's going on in each others' personal lives.

Cons

It's a fast-paced environment and a smaller team, so you'll always be busy. This creates a lot of excitement and opportunity, but could potentially overwhelming for those who prefer a slow pace of work.

Pros

- Great work-life balance and a really supportive environment. - Employee feedback loops are excellent. Management genuinely asks for suggestions every quarter, and these are discussed in quarterly planning meetings. - The company culture here has genuinely transformed for the better, (especially compared to some of the older reviews you might see). The team has worked incredibly hard to build a positive workplace, with initiatives like our DEI and Professional Development committees, and focus groups for our Employee Net Promoter Score reviews to discuss feedback and decide on new initiatives. - When I was considering joining, I was initially concerned about some of the old Glassdoor reviews. After being here for over a year, I can confidently say those old allegations couldn't be further from the truth. - We're a full-time remote company, which offers great flexibility. - Benefits are great, including generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and a 6-week paid sabbatical after 5, 10, 15 (and so on) years of service. - The people here are truly the best. Everyone is helpful and genuinely wants you to succeed.

Cons

- Since it's a smaller company, you'll need to be comfortable wearing a lot of different hats. - It's a very innovative and entrepreneurial, which might not be the right fit for everyone. - Some processes are still evolving as we grow.
