Pros

The culture team did a great job creating community, there were always mixers, events, or activities happening. The salary was competitive, and each assignment provided real opportunities to learn and grow. You also had the chance to collaborate with different sectors, which helped you understand various lines of business and the many approaches to consulting. The experience I gained in this role also played a meaningful part in shaping my career and preparing me for greater opportunities.

Cons

The business development team consistently showed favoritism when assigning new projects, which didn’t always align with skill or experience. They often connected staff with unvetted prospects who couldn’t realistically afford services, and performance was judged unfairly based on these interactions, which affected bonuses and promotions. Leadership would claim the pipeline was strong, only to announce layoffs shortly after, creating a constant sense of instability. The Healthcare Sector also made little effort to invest in staff development or team growth, leading to high turnover and low morale. Additionally, there was little to no diversity within Healthcare leadership or teams, which limited perspectives and contributed to an imbalanced work environment.

Pros

Compensation is OK. There are some really nice people in the organization to work with, but you have to find them.

Cons

If you are not part of the SWC "club" (company name prior to them joining BDO), good luck. Poor leadership!!! Practice lead talks to everyone like they are talking to a CEO, not relatable in most cases. No clear employee development plans. You are held accountable for things completely outside of your individual control. They stress incorporating AI into work strategy, but have no plan on what that looks like or how to do it and want everyone to formulate it because leadership has no roadmap. One has no control over where you want to take your career, yet you are expected to know everything, about everything. As a result, you become an expert of nothing! Work assigned rarely leverages skills, almost as if they throw darts to see who works on what.
