Don't do it. It's the same as Big 4, just less $$ - Senior Auditor BDO Employee Review

Pros

Nice office in downtown Denver with a gym on basement level. Lots of smart, nice people to work with. Great technology/national resources.

Cons

Very expensive parking, and leadership wants you to come in as much as possible - really pushing for in-office unless you are at a client. They want remote work to go away. Salary and bonuses are a joke, salaries are WAY under market. Now that Colorado pay transparency law was passed it is very obvious BDO does not pay what the market currently is offering. ALWAYS understaffed. All of the knowledgeable, experienced employees are leaving for better jobs. Now the region has just a few long-term (mostly directors/partners) employees, and a bunch of really bad turnover. You can't even keep track of who's still working there because people are always leaving. Poor morale - I don't think anyone really believes this region will ever be fully staffed, and most employees aren't even appreciated. They tell you to not "suffer in silence" but when you speak up, they tell you to stop complaining, or insist there is no issue at all, or given excuses why it is taking so long to fix something. It's sad. Senior leadership is totally disconnected from how hard everyone is working/how burnt out everyone is. They brag about firing clients as a solution to "fixing" the workload to help. Client work is more often late than not. Embarrassing to work for them.

Pros

Compensation is OK. There are some really nice people in the organization to work with, but you have to find them.

Cons

If you are not part of the SWC "club" (company name prior to them joining BDO), good luck. Poor leadership!!! Practice lead talks to everyone like they are talking to a CEO, not relatable in most cases. No clear employee development plans. You are held accountable for things completely outside of your individual control. They stress incorporating AI into work strategy, but have no plan on what that looks like or how to do it and want everyone to formulate it because leadership has no roadmap. One has no control over where you want to take your career, yet you are expected to know everything, about everything. As a result, you become an expert of nothing! Work assigned rarely leverages skills, almost as if they throw darts to see who works on what.
