Depressing, bureaucratic place to work - Engineer Baxter Employee Review

Pros

SOME of the people are smart and engaging, and really trying their best. If you're lucky enough to work on a small team with a great manager, it can be a very rewarding short-term experience.

Cons

There is a general disdain for the R&D group in Round Lake from the corporate leaders in Deerfield. In some ways, the disdain is justified. So many people in Round Lake are incompetent and working with them can be a chore. The bureaucracy at all locations can be infuriating at times. It sometimes seems that authority has been delegated to the least capable individuals while talented people have trouble getting promoted if they can't play the politics. Little priority or effort given to meeting deadlines, as evidenced by a horrendous product launch track record over the last 15 years. In general, people feel content with mediocrity.
