Pros

Benefits are great, especially if SES/career service. Co-workers are great. Management does not put up with lazy or incompetent people (see writers of negative reviews below). Senior management very involved in every aspect of operations.

Cons

State system does not allow for merit pay increase or COLAs. Only accross the board raises must pass Florida legislature which is heavily conservative (read: hates state workers, permits one raise every decade).

Pros

Medical Benefits for Career Service positions

Cons

Senior Management are thugs that set a very negative hostile work environment. Middle management runs on backbiting, fear and finger pointing. Everyone walks around fearing for their job which compensation is beyond low for standards of living. The Senior management makes their $100,000.00 but deny the workers a fair wage. Most front line staff must work two or more jobs to live. This is considered normal to the management. There are two sets of rules of employment; those for the chosen and those for what senior management deem peons. After the latest round of firings it be clear racism and nepotism is used to make the decisions. An employee will be told who they can and can't talk to within the agency and with outside organizations. Senior Management runs this place like a state agency, a state prison, and the employees are the inmates. Also in case of a disaster employees are required to work in the shelters. The employees that must work two jobs due to the low wages paid to them must leave their families to work. Ask the Director where she will be during a disaster? This woman and her senior management seem to enjoy firing people. The only way to get ahead in this agency is to be Hispanic, a male and accept the rules set forth by the director.
