Pros

- smart colleagues - work from home - 2x a year travel in nice hotels - generous learning budget (2000$ usd per year)

Cons

- they are not winning enterprise contracts which results in employees being bored as there are no features/requirements to implement - not enough software development compared to operations (because they are not winning enterprise contracts) - promotion process is hush hush, the promotion applicant doesn't know anything about how his application is progressing. you send the application and wait. The promotion lead has never met you and has the final say. - Management has no incentive to care if you enjoy your work. Every 6 months management makes promises to the ceo (these are called roadmap items), your manager is on the hook to deliver these and so all that matters is that the roadmap items are completed. - Not much opportunity to change teams or try something different - Many seniors leaving - culture revolves around high performers - managers are not trained

Pros

Met some interesting people, had some interesting conversations.

Cons

Was constantly hearing bad stories about upper management. I only experienced the CEO expressing minor annoyance and paranoia a couple of times. My line manager always seemed to be treading water, fixated on dev-ops ceremonies, and didn't respect the opinions of his peers. The guy who was the "expert" for my field practised management by spreadsheet and was completely out of his depth, always obsessing about his approach to the work and inflicting his opinion on everyone else. Spent too much time having to plan for travel or hear about everyone's travel plans. Wasted so much time in the company's ongoing recruitment drive which pushes most of the work of interviewing and filtering candidates onto regular employees.
