You either give up your life for a well-below market value salary or risk not being one of the "in" crowd. No amount of hours will be enough. Employees are routinely thrown under the bus to avoid offending a paying client, no matter how abusive the client becomes; it's fire first and ask questions later.
I watched employee after employee crying at their desk because of ridiculously unrealistic expectations placed upon them. Unless you get lucky and land one of the "good" managers, you'll work for someone completely detached that has no clue what you go through on a daily basis because they spend their life in meetings 8 hours a day.
